Oppression, Resistance and Revolution - Friday

“Good morning, class,” Magneto said after everyone had taken their seats. “My name is Erik Lehnsherr. For the purpose of this class you may address me as... professor.”

He smirked a little at that before continuing.

“Now, I’m sure many of you know me by a very different name. That is a topic for a different day. For those of you who might be curious, feel free to ask Mr. Starsmore who is a teacher here or Miss Pryde at the local bar. I’m sure they have some delightful tales to tell you.”

Giving his class a smirk, he began to walk up and down the rows of desks and began to lecture.

“This class is entitled Oppression, Resistance and Revolution,” he continued. “Which will entail both lecture as well as practical labs. As part of this course we will be looking at the history of oppression, resistance and revolution throughout history. We will discuss its roots and its effect on society. I realize that many of you may not be from this planet or perhaps from an alternate line of history. For the purpose of this class, I shall be drawing examples from my own world. I expect all of you to provide your own examples as you see fit. Before we begin our class exercise today, Mr. Kaplan will be the TA for the course. Mr. Kaplan? Please see me after class for instructions. If he's here.”

Coming full circle, Magneto took his place in front of the class. “Now, I understand it’s typically a tradition in this school to start class with introductions. I do not feel that is necessary. Instead I would like for you all to go around the room and tell me about a cause you feel is worth dying for.”

And then with a random point of his finger, Magneto selected his first student. “You. Begin.”

"I'm not limited," Victor said. "I just don't think I feel that strongly about any one, like, political cause. I want to help where I can. People I care about first, then civilians. Then anybody who needs me."

"That can involve a lot of people," Magneto noted flatly. "Especially if the civilians are the ones persecuting your friends. Would you stick to saving your friends first in that particular situation?"

"You mean, save them before I took on the bad guys?" Victor checked. "Probably. First, because most of the people I'm thinking of have powers so I'm stronger if I'm working with them, and second, because that way even if I get killed I was trying to save lives, not just take them."

"That would be depend on what you would define as 'bad guys.' Since you seem to have some experience with people with powers, what if your friends were being attacked by civilians under the influence of a drug or artificially induced hysteria?" Magneto proposed.

"I'd do as much as I could to take the most threatening civilians out of the fight, then get my friends," Victor said, rubbing at the back of his neck. "I have, um, magnetic and electrical powers? So there'd probably be options that wouldn't kill anyone. Unless the crazy mob was using fire or something."

Magnetic and electric powers? Interesting.

"Are you a mutant?" Magneto asked bluntly. "Or have you come about these powers in a different fashion."

The bluntness was interesting: Either Magneto's powers couldn't recognize cybernetic parts easily, or he wasn't looking. Victor mulled that over as he decided how to frame his answer.

Half the class had heard him say this already, so: "Not a mutant. Just, um, an android. "

Well Magneto doesn't necessarily body scan every student who walks into his classroom.

"Interesting," Magneto echoed again. "Feel free to stop by during my office hours. I'd like to see how your powers work."

Hey, Victor was totally special enough to deserve a body scan, omg.

"I'll try," he said, head bobbing in a nod.

He might ask Jono or Kitty how stupid an idea they thought it was, first.
