Oppression, Resistance and Revolution - Friday

“Good morning, class,” Magneto said after everyone had taken their seats. “My name is Erik Lehnsherr. For the purpose of this class you may address me as... professor.”

He smirked a little at that before continuing.

“Now, I’m sure many of you know me by a very different name. That is a topic for a different day. For those of you who might be curious, feel free to ask Mr. Starsmore who is a teacher here or Miss Pryde at the local bar. I’m sure they have some delightful tales to tell you.”

Giving his class a smirk, he began to walk up and down the rows of desks and began to lecture.

“This class is entitled Oppression, Resistance and Revolution,” he continued. “Which will entail both lecture as well as practical labs. As part of this course we will be looking at the history of oppression, resistance and revolution throughout history. We will discuss its roots and its effect on society. I realize that many of you may not be from this planet or perhaps from an alternate line of history. For the purpose of this class, I shall be drawing examples from my own world. I expect all of you to provide your own examples as you see fit. Before we begin our class exercise today, Mr. Kaplan will be the TA for the course. Mr. Kaplan? Please see me after class for instructions. If he's here.

Coming full circle, Magneto took his place in front of the class. “Now, I understand it’s typically a tradition in this school to start class with introductions. I do not feel that is necessary. Instead I would like for you all to go around the room and tell me about a cause you feel is worth dying for.”

And then with a random point of his finger, Magneto selected his first student. “You. Begin.”

You mean if she wasn't trapped in a metal box at the time? Or she hadn't started a fight with the official herself?

"I keep the terrorists from harming anyone," Korra replied. "The official being in the wrong doesn't mean they're in the right. Then I'd do something about the imprisoned citizens, who apparently don't matter too much to the terrorists to begin with."

The Avatar was supposed to fight for everyone... even though she couldn't now.

You could blame salt rubbed into not-even-starting-to-heal wounds for the next thing out of her mouth. "I guess hiding in a classroom keeps you nice and rested."

No one had ever accused Korra of overthinking things.

And what was worst he could do to her? Take her bending? Too late. "I'm just saying, you haven't given us a reason to believe you have the right to judge what we'd sacrifice ourselves for."

Kepp digging, Korra, that's a brilliant idea.

"I was just answering your questions," Korra replied, just as flatly, fingers drumming on the table. "I can't help it if you don't like the answers."

Korra, there was a difference between an answer and the equivalent of 'those who can't do, teach'.

"Protecting as many of those who you can isn't needless or worthless," Korra retorted, slamming her hand against the desk. Luckily airbending didn't tie into emotions quite the same the way fire or water did, so the resultant wind only sent her notes fluttering to the ground. "If you think only certain kinds of people deserve it, then you're worse than a coward."

Korra, honey, this is what led to things like you being bloodbent into a little metal box.
