Journalistic Integrity (Friday, February 10 - 3rd period)

Rita smiled widely at the class as they filed in.

No, not a nice smile. It was anyone's guess as to why she was so pleased.

"Good morning, boys and girls. Today we're going to do something a little different - namely, conduct interviews. You're each going to be given a list of questions to ask your interviewee, and I expect to receive detailed answers."

She began to pass out the questions. "Naturally, if you're uncomfortable, your grade will not suffer for not answering the questions. They get progressively more...inquisitive, so please, just answer up to your comfort level. This is an exercise in learning our boundaries, after all."

She finished passing them out, and with a flick of her wand, names appeared in the air.

Krycek, Alex - Barbossa
Trebond, Alanna - Callistie
Fraiser, Janet - Sullivan, Chloe
Thrace, Kara - Mars, Veronica
Echolls, Logan - ...?

"Oh dear. Mr. Echolls, it seems you're partnerless. Oh, well. You'll be working with me, in that case," Rita said, full of sympathy. Probably.

[ooc: Okay, here's the deal: I know these questions might be problematic for some characters. Trust me, I get that. So honestly, if you don't think your character would be comfortable answering them all, just have them stop where they're comforable, or skip to the ones that they don't mind answering. That's absolutely fine. And likewise, if you have any questions about the exercise, please feel free to email me at ms.rita.skeeter@gmail.com.]

[OCD threads are a-comin' up. And I'll add it in here, since I forgot - slowplay is absolutely fine, since I know a few of you have limited access. :)]

Barbossa looked down at the paper. "What be yer full name, age, 'n place o' birth?"

"Alex Krycek, eighteen years old. I was born in New York, New York." Two out of three wasn't a bad start at fudging the truth. "Do we want to go back and forth, or focus on one of us at a time?"

"It'd probably be goin' a bit quicker if we only be askin' the question once," Barbossa said. "I be Barbossa. Me first name I be not rememberin', but I be quite sure it be neither Herman nor Wilber nor Rufus. I be fifteen or near enough--me birth certificate be not exactly anywhere t' be found either--, and I be born in Tortuga in the West Indies."

Krycek nodded, glancing at the list. "Parents' names? Leo and Vera Krycek. And, ah, my father worked in construction."

"Construction? Interestin'. What did he be buildin'? Houses 'n the like?"

Barbossa shrugged. "I be not able t' answer these questions. I be an orphan, dropped off at a foundlin' home." He grinned. "So as far as I be knowin', piracy be the family business."

Krycek nodded. "Well, buildings - skyscrapers and offices, mostly," he explained. He smirked at Barbossa's answer, then asked, "If you had no parents, then who raised you?"

"I be raisin' me," he replied. "At least until I were old enough t' stowaway on me first ship. I've been at sea ever since, and the crews o' the ships have been keepin' me on the straight 'n narrow."

"The straight and narrow road of piracy?" Krycek grinned slightly. "Next question - what's your reason for coming to Fandom? I'm here for the education."

"Thar be rules," Barbossa said. He paused. "Well, guidelines. And things like 'be not sneakin' up on Hair-Trigger Ted' be seemin' obvious in retrospect, but ye occasionally be learnin' the hard way."

He grinned. "I be here fer teh education as well. I be stayin' fer the entertainment value."

He frowned at the next question. "Family t'be functional? Since I be left at a foundlin' home, I be guessin' probably not."

Krycek snickered. "You just make sure it's someone else who's learning while you observe."

He looked down the list again, then pursed his lips as he skimmed down the remaining question. "Mine functioned," Krycek said with a shrug. "Describe a memorable event...? I was born. Which was advantageous to me, if nothing else."

Barbossa laughed. "Aye, it be better t' learn some o' those lessons in a manner that be not entirely first-hand."

He frowned. "If I be thinkin' o' the crew as family--which I be not as they tend t' be a lyin', thievin', whorin' group o' miscreants and therefore be much more interestin' than any family I ever be hearin' of, I be thinkin' a memorable event be when we marooned Squealin' Charlie fer tellin' the authorities where t' find us." Barbossa paused. "Ye'd think his nickname would've been a giveaway that he be not precisely trustworthy."
