Oh would you look at that? There was an actual Sarah present today! The Danger Shop was a park today, and the class was gathered underneath a tree, with quilts to sit on.

"Sorry about the last two weeks," Sarah began. "Portalocity miscalculated the time difference last week, so I was in England while you lot were studying here. And I still don't know what the fuck happened the week before that." She was maybe going to ask Cara about that, later. "But, it's your second to last class in this workshop. There might be a final next week, or there might not. Haven't decided yet, and the lot of you have no real way to study for it, so who the fuck cares? I'm still taking this as an excuse to have an easy class. All you've got to do is talk."

Like any of her sessions in this workshop had been particularly hard.

"Language. If you go outside your own country, you might have problems with it. Hell, you might even have problems with it in your own country, but that's beside the point. What I want you to do today is talk about what foreign phrases you think it might be useful to learn before you go off and get yourself in trouble. Like, say ––" She gestured around them. "–– I once knew a hero from here so I know that knowing how to say 'Pistä se puukko pois' could come in handy 'round here."

Was she going to tell them what that meant? Maybe. Her pronunciation was atrocious, by the way.

"So, what kind of phrases do you think it'd be good to know, just in general? Ones that get you out of jail? Ones that'll get you laid? The names of all the food they sell on the streets so you'll at least know you're about to eat goat testicles? Talk."

Ace would be looking at the squirrel climbing the tree right next to her, yes -- and wondering whether it was a holographic squirrel or a newsie who'd sneaked into the Danger Shop. She was tempted to do something worth reporting just to see if it showed up in tomorrow's notes, but she couldn't decide what.

"So, what kind of phrases do you think it'd be good to know, just in general? Ones that get you out of jail? Ones that'll get you laid? The names of all the food they sell on the streets so you'll at least know you're about to eat goat testicles?"

"Put that away, you might poke somebody's eye out?" Ace suggested. It seemed useful for a variety of situations.

Sarah approved, surprising no one. "Definitely a good one," she rasped, nodding. "That's useful in a whole bunch of situations. Most of which you should expect to find yourself in during a holiday, honestly."

Or maybe that was just her.

"'It wasn't me'?" Richie suggested. "Always good to be able to try and blame someone else if things go wrong, right?"

Once she pings in!

Cara was so very happy not to be at the front of the class again. You could tell by the fact she gave off less of an air of wanting to punch things than usual.

"Cara, you wouldn't happen to know what the fuck was up with my complete lack of existing, two weeks back?"

Why do your own research when you could just ask others?

"You were caught out as a member of the resistance and killed." Way to sugarcoat that, Cara. "Personally I think you just couldn't take teaching that class any longer."

Had Cara mentioned how much she'd hated that class? Even though she could only clearly remember the one session of it now.

"... I was dead?"

She'd... she'd deal with that on her own time. In the here and now, she tilted her head almost quizzically. "What class was it?"

"Yes," Cara replied, then added. "You're probably better off not remembering it."

As for the class related question, Cara stared off into the middle distance as she recited "The Pros and Pros of Celibacy."

Sarah looked suitably incredulous. And amused, because that was just fucking ridiculous.

"What? You've got to be pulling my leg."

"I wouldn't joke about it," Cara said, through teeth that weren't gritted only through force of will.. "I had to teach it afterwards."

"Well," said Sarah, who was pretty surprised by this, but not really showing it. Wasn't her style. "Then I'm glad to have missed it."

For that reason. That was enough dystopia for her, right there.

Which was deeply unfair in Cara's opinion, since she got to remember that class. "It went with the rule about no touching or having sex with members of the opposite sex."

Was Sarah starting to see why Cara thought she got caught on purpose?

Now that she's here, for once.
