So You're In the Middle of a War, Monday, Period 4
This was probably unexpected coming from Zayne, but class today was taking place at the school's shooting range.
"One of the strange things about war is the weapons," Zayne said. "Mu understanding of wars on this planet is that you really just end up with whatever weapons your army issues, whether it's a specific rifle or handgun or something. You learn to trust the weapon you have, but you don't necessarily develop a specific attachment to it."
"Things can be a bit different in my galaxy," Zayne said. "Sure, you start out with a service issued weapon, but it seems like everyone ends up with their own signature gun or knife or something. In my case, since I refused to shoot anyone, both my Republic and Mandalorian commanding officers let me use my lightsaber.
Zayne pulled the lightsaber off his belt and thumbed it on. He held the shining blue blade a safe distance from the students, just to make sure there weren't any accidental amputations. "Several of you are already familiar with lightsabers. For those of you who aren't, it's the signature weapon of Force users in my galaxy. Since I trained as a Jedi, I was trained in the use of this weapon. I've never been great with it in battle, but I've survived a lot of fights with it. And it's easier to use as a non-lethal tool to help people than a gun."
Switching the saber off and putting it back on his belt, he then picked up a blaster pistol. "I do own a gun, though, and I've had this one for a few years now. I think I've only shot it two or three times in a fight, though. Really, only when my lightsaber has been lost for a little bit. Which happens more often than I care to admit.... But even though I barely use it, I'm comfortable with it. If I really need a weapon to go into battle with and I can't have my first choice, I think I'd be better off defending myself with this than pretty much anything else."
"I get the impression those kind of feelings are usually stronger in worlds and times where swords outnumber guns. Maybe because if you have guns, they're very possibly being mass produced and improved on quickly so there's always an improved weapon out there," Zayne reasoned. This part was purely speculative, of course. "Meanwhile, there's only so much you can do to improve a sharp metal stick, so if you find one that works for you, you should probably keep it around as long as you can."
"Anyway, we're here in the gun range today to give you a chance to get a feel for weapons that you're either unfamiliar with, or that you just want to get some training in with. I'll be in here, giving guidance and making sure nobody accidentally shoots someone else. If you'd rather check out something less... shooty, the salle is right next door. I have wooden training swords set up in there. I'll check in periodically throughout the period, but for the most part, you're on your own there. Please don't hurt each other."

The safe money among the group is that if anyone accidentally shoots a person, it will be me. But the nice thing is that the safe money is that if I accidentally shoot anyone, it will be myself, probably in the foot, so at least I won't have to feel guilty.
