Kicking Ass, Teamwork Style (Wednesday, Period 2, Week 5)

In contrast to last week's class (for anyone who remembered it), Kennedy had programmed the Danger Shop as a regular old gym today: nothing fancy, just a laid-back and functional space with workout equipment, sparring areas, and several ~~moddable~~ weapons racks. That was totally deliberate. She was sitting cross-legged on a stack of folded mats in the center of the gym as students arrived, one knee bouncing up and down idly.

"Hey," she said once it was time for class to start. "I'm just gonna start off by saying I am really sorry for bizarro me." That was as much as she would elaborate on that, but apologizing for her behavior was kind of a monumental occasion, kids.

"So today's gonna be pretty kickback. If you learned something about teamwork in the last week and you're up to sharing it, let's hear it. Otherwise? Do what you want: spar, work out, hell, go back to your rooms and sleep if you feel like it." She smiled slightly. "Zero pressure."

"I learned that if somebody asks you to help out with something back home, you should probably do it and avoid the crazy week everyone else had," Terry chimed in. "Even if it does mean a few hours of confusion when you get back."

"Pretty fair trade, huh?" Kennedy asked. "Did the home thing work out okay?"

"Yeah, it went fine," Terry said. "Definitely nothing compared to what everyone else went through."

Just a minor alien invasion. Nothing special.

Oh, one of those? Pfft.

"Good to hear." Kennedy gave him a thumbs-up. "Plus, bonus points for helping people out."

Not that she could actually give bonus points, but details.

Nap on the mats. It's all good. Kennedy's also happy to spar with you if you want.

Welcome back, Bobby!

Yeah, Bobby was good to just hang out for a while. Although he'd spar or whatever if anyone really wanted.

Kennedy wandered over at some point and went to nudge him with her shoulder. "Good to be back?"

"Me, or the universe in general?" Bobby asked.

"Yes," Kennedy replied, because that about covered it.

"Then... yeah," Bobby grinned at her. Truthfully, he was still kind of messed up due to the whole "memories of watching his girlfriend die" thing, but in true Bobby Drake fashion, was repressing the hell out of it. "Back's good. How're you holding up?"

He'd fit right in with the Scoobies that way.

"Enjoying doing whatever the hell I want to again?" Except she was all disturbingly less impulsive these days. Oh, and she also didn't buy that he was totally fine, because if she wasn't, with her comparatively minor level of trauma, there was no way he could be.

She didn't bring it up directly, though, instead opting for a quiet, "I still feel kind of like I'm never really gonna be clean again."

"It wasn't you," Bobby said firmly. "And I don't just mean the alternate-universe thing. There was a spell. And trust me, I know from experience that kind of thing is... hard to break." Okay, so his time under Rampage's control had been some sort of mind control and not a spell, exactly, but. Close enough.

"I get the not-me, alternate-universe thing. It's the spell part that worries me," Kennedy admitted, and lowered her voice a little so the students (hopefully) couldn't hear. "Me having the girlfriend with the ultra-high-octane mojo who's figuring out how to talk in my head. I was cool with it before. Now, hi, new funky level of weirdness I don't know how to defend against."

Not that she had trust issues about Willow and magic except she kind of did. That was annoying.

"Something mental like that... maybe shields, like, the same sort of thing that blocks telepathy?" Bobby pondered. "I don't remember a lot of details of what went on," more because of his alternate-self's mental state than anything else, really, "but... the other-you broke out of it, right?"

"Other-you had a lot to do with that," Kennedy acknowledged. "What... you know, what happened? That sorta kicked my ass about actually fighting back. It freaks me out that it was that easy for someone to control me like that, though."

Kennedy, one of these days you'll learn that you can't kick everything's ass and not break a sweat.

Which was pretty much Bobby's line of thought, yeah. "Because the magic exists or because it was you that got hit with it?" Or, you know. A little of column A, little of column B.

Kennedy bit her lip. "All of the above, sort of? I know there's magic in my world that does the same thing. And I'm so not cool with being used like that to screw with people I care about."

Bobby nodded. "Do you want to- I could walk you through some of the basic shielding stuff I know. And I'm sure Sookie wouldn't mind helping you practice..." despite the seriousness of the conversation, he couldn't help the goofy grin at Sookie's name.

Kennedy totally got why, and gave him a goofy grin back. "I'm totally down with practice. Plus-- hey, you and Sookie have that whole..." She tapped a finger against her temple and waved it back and forth. "Link thing going on, right? Me and Will are trying to set up something like that, but my mental antenna needs some adjusting."

Well, there was more reason than usual this week, considering Bobby was still riding on a high of 'asked her to move in with me and she said yes'. "Awesome," he gave her a thumbs up. "I'll let her know."

Oh, good, they could start comparing cohabitation notes!

"Tell her hi from me, and all that?" Kennedy asked. "Sorry I kinda blew out of town really fast on Sunday and didn't get a chance to see her, it was just... y'know. Also, you guys totally have to come visit before Will and I leave New York."

She paused. "Or after, too."

Who might be streaming the Olympics on her iPad. After missing out on the start of the Games last week she was super confused as to why they were in London and not Athens, and then remembered the time difference.

And you thought NBC's tape delay was creating spoiler ~~not you, AU Steph~~ problems? Oh well. Double the Olympics for her!
