Art Games, Monday, P2 [Week 5]

No one at the front of the classroom this morning was looking particularly peppy or energetic this morning. For these two, that was very unusual. Alternate universes were traumatic and exhausting.

Everyone should know what was coming on classes after those kinds of weeks by now. There was a television set up at the front of the classroom and several comfy beanbags in front of it, giving everyone a good view.

“Okay guys, I know you’ve probably all had a rough time, so we are doing nothing taxing today,” Angela promised. “Pull up a beanbag, watch the movie if you want to... Take a nap, if you want to...”

“If you need either of us, we will be here.”

Kenzi snickered. "I thought it was the ghost! Or a new ghost, or that the gremlins got into the booze..."

"Gremlins. Are those the nasty green monsters that live in the vents and things? I've tried to avoid them."

Even more than some people at the school tried to, even. For an average person, a gremlin bite was a hassle. For Arietty, it would be like being eaten by a dinosaur.

"Yeah, if they bite you, you hallucinate...." Kenzi paused. "Or in your case, aaaaaack. Crap. How have you managed to get away from those guys?"

"I can usually tell when they're coming." That "about to be seen" borrower sense came in mighty handy. "They're not too hard to avoid if they don't know you're there."

"That's good. Jeez." Kenzi frowned. "We should get you an itty gun, or a suit of armor, or something, though. Or a tank."

A TANK. A TANK WOULD BE AWESOME.

"I have a gun!" Arietty was quite proud of this. She pulled out her little tiny action figure dart gun -- that was the size of a pistol gripped sawed off shotgun for her. "It doesn't do much damage, but James says getting shot with it is very distracting."

Kenzi grinned at it in admiration. "Bet it does more to a gremlin than to a-- human bean, though." She tilted her head. "You could dip the darts in something? Like pepper spray?"

"Why would I want them to taste peppery?" Arietty asked.

"That stuff stings, I bet it stings more if you shoot it in someone." Kenzi paused. "Not that I want to experiment and find out for myself. But yeah, plenty of people do experimenty things here. I bet you could get someone to put something on it."

"I guess. It might be useful for the times I can't run away." She could usually run away, though.

"Or get you little Barbie rollerblades." She tilted her head. "Are you bigger or smaller than a Barbie doll, though?"

"She's the blonde one with the pink sparkly clothes, right? I'm a little smaller. And her shoes are no good at all."

"Yup, that's her." ~~That bitch had everything.~~ "Too bad. Sounds like you have it handled. But I get why a car would be better." Plus, what teen didn't want a car?

"Much better. I could sleep in! Or maybe I'll train a rat. They're supposed to be very intelligent, and if I got one very young, then it wouldn't have to be scary."

"Wait, what?" Kenzi hadn't put that together with how long Arietty had to hike to get to class yet. "And yeah, I've heard rats are smart, you'd be training it to -- ride?"

"Well, sure. You beans have those bloody great big things." What were they called again? "Horses. And you don't have any nearly the right size for me."

"Heh." Okay, there was no way that image wasn't amusing. "Where would you get the rat?" Seeing as the pet store was waaaaay far away.

"I don't know," Arietty admitted. "The ones around here are all very nasty." Less nasty, more not used to having tiny people invade their territory. But when you were four inches tall, a rat screeching at you was very intimidating. "I suppose there must be something in the town. Towns always have things you need. But it'd take me days to get down there and explore it."

Kenzi looked over, considering. "I could take you there. For help with 'borrowing' things, maybe?" She grinned.

Arietty looked up, eyes wide. "Would you? And I'd love to help! I'm a very good borrower." Even though she'd only actually been doing it for not quite a year, yet. "I can borrow anything I can carry! More if I had a rat or a car to help."

"Then you're on. Tomorrow, maybe? I don't have any classes, or work."

"I have a class," Arietty admitted. "But I usually get back to the dorms before dark. When do the shops and things close?"

"Pretty late, it's summer." Kenzi cocked her head. "I can just pick you up after class, though. I mean, meet you there." Mental facepalm at that phrasing.

"That sounds lovely," Arietty decided. "And you may have to pick me up as well. Just don't do it without warning me first."
