Detention, Depths of the Castle, Wednesday

The good news for everyone in detention was that there wasn't any sign of singing going on on the island today, so everyone could be spared from any further embarrassing admissions that they'd rather not have made.

The bad news was for everyone in detention was, well, they were all still in detention. But surely, it was getting easier to deal with over time?

It was cold again today, but possibly contained fruit. Or something that at least looked like fruit. The only way to find out for sure was to eat!

There's no need to harmonize today! Aren't you all so lucky?

Well, you're lucky until everyone else starts showing up, at least.

Dinner was cold today too. It's what you all get for engaging in mirthful activities yesterday. Not being able to help it isn't an excuse!

Am I having too much fun being mean here? Possibly. >:D

Dinah was in a -- strangely good mood. Singing out her feelings sucked. Having Sam be okay with it wasn't as bad.

There was no singing today. But there might have been humming.

(Or, you know not. Unless the choice was watching someone mess with someone she cared about. Then it was On.)

Liara was still suffering from extreme mortification after yesterday, so instead of wandering around, she had sat down in a corner. She looked mildly put out about everything.

Liara would continue to sit around in her corner and stare at the walls while fiddling with her fingers, thank you. Not because she was particularly traumatized, but because yesterday had really thrown her back a bit in the social awkwardness arena.

Cassidy poked at her food today. She hadn't eaten much (or at all) yesterday, and she knew she needed to get some kind of food into her system so she could heal a little bit from yesterday.

Eve sat in a corner, ignoring everything -- what did it matter, when she knew she'd be having a visitor of her very own? She didn't know when Savannah would show up, just that she would show up. She usually did.

"You need to eat," K-Mart said. "I saw what she did to you yesterday; you're lucky you're alive. So, you need to eat."

It was the longest string of words she'd put together at one go in a while.

"What if I don't?" She wondered softly. "What if I just refuse to eat until my body and the struggling within consumes what is left of me and it makes me so weak that one of her visits kill me?"

K-Mart just sort of sat there, staring down at her hands. She did a lot of that nowadays.

Occasionally she looked up to frantically make sure she wasn't hallucinating anything -- that one had happened more than once.

"You don't want her to win," K-Mart said quietly. "You can't fight Umbridge, but you can fight her minion. And do you really want Elle to win? Imagine how insufferable she'll be then. Imagine who she might move on to next."

If there was no singing, today, there was no particular need for Jonothon to sit in the darkest corner he could find, glowering at everyone who so much as opened their mouths.

Which, really, worked out for everyone, didn't it?

Or well, it would, but Jonothon was doing just that regardless.

Cassidy's shoulders slumped even more.

"Yes," she said almost too softly to be heard. "I have to protect what others I can; that's what a Queen of Kaeleer must do." She moved her spoon around her bowl. "So I force myself to stay alive and I take her torture and it keeps someone else safe. It matters not what she does to me so long as she does it to no other."

Her words were like a mantra, only they were empty of emotion right now.

Jono sat back, arms crossed in front of his chest, looking like he couldn't care less who came in to visit, today.

Which was at least half-true. He cared if he got a visit at all. But whoever you were, he wasn't going to let you get to him. Not if he could help it.

"And if we ever get out of here, I will help you kick her ass," K-Mart murmured quietly. "You know I will."+

"I don't think that I will ever get out of here," she said softly and resignedly.

"I think you will," K-Mart said. "You're brave and strong. Me, on the other hand... I'm going to die in here. I'm already crazy half the time."

K-Mart sat up against a wall, arms wrapped around her knees, as she waited. Sometimes she got a visitor, sometimes she didn't. She was usually the afterthought, the one who got tortured when somebody else's favorite was already busy.

She didn't mind being the afterthought. It kept people away from her most of the time.

"All of us are," Cassidy said. "Just in different ways."

"I hallucinate," K-Mart volunteered. "A lot."

"I'm not always here or I'm fighting internally to get to something I can never again reach."
