Art Games, Monday, P2 [Week 3]

There were different colors and types of paper all over the room when the students arrived for class. Savannah and Angela appeared to be busy continuously folding the papers that they both had in front of them.

Origami,” Savannah addressed them without looking up from her project. “It’s Japanese for ‘paper folding’ and it’s also what we’ll be doing today.” She looked up and then smiled, lifting what appeared to be a blue rose up for the students to see. “I started learning origami a little while ago and find that it’s soothing and it helps me relax when my mind is working on something difficult.”

Angela spread some pieces of paper with instructions out on the desks. “Some of you have probably done a little of this before, but just in case, you can start with something simple, using your base folds. Anything from paper airplanes a cup for your homemade ‘ball and cup’ kind of game. Maybe telling each other’s fortunes or just making thousands of paper cranes.”

“Whatever you decide, have fun with it,” Savannah said with a smile. “There are literally hundreds of things that you could make.”

Arietty was rather fascinated by the paper airplane concept. Primarily by whether or not she could make one large enough to support her weight. She got the biggest piece of paper she could handle, and using a lot of running and jumping around, finally managed to finagle it into shape.

Then she lifted it over her head, let out a tiny bellow, and ran for the edge of the desk to see how far she could coast.

Well, at least it managed to keep her from plunging to her doom.

Angelica had never tried origami before, but she got the hang of it pretty quickly. She wasn't going to make a thousand paper cranes, though. Maybe just ten.

It'd be some years still before a NYC coke dealer would teach Jeremy to fold bills into sailboats, but much to even his own surprise, he turned out to already be quite good at this origami thing.

He'd be over here, folding some neat cranes.

Richie could do paper airplanes and paper footballs. That was the extent of his paper folding ability. He did attempt a cup but it came out lopsided and weird so he went with some footballs for flicking around the room.
