Summer Games of Harmony, Wednesday, period 1

The class met in the gym today, where Pinkie waited behind a set of tables along one wall, covered in various art supplies, looking out over a long oval track marked out on the floor with colored tape and little plastic traffic cones. There were several dressing screens in the corner, behind which could be seen long racks of clothing.

"Hi everypony! Welcome back to Summer Games of Harmony! I hope you're all ready for some super fun, today! I know I am!

"Last week, I had you all choose a country to represent in the games! First up today, you're all going to make yourselves some flags! We've got markers and paints and glitters and everything! You can make your flag any size you want, just make sure you can make it fast, because today's game is. . . ." She yanked one of the racks out from behind the dressing screens. "Roller Derby races!"

That's right, those racks were covered in ~~moddable~~ brightly colored, skimpy skating costumes, along with skates, pads, and helmets in various sizes.

"So when I say 'go', you're all going to get to make your flag, get dressed, then skate one lap around the circle to cross the finish line! On your marks . . . get set . . . GO!"

Ready to roll!

Not much of a lecture today before we leap into the race, but hey, I'm sure you can get some reaction shots and chatting in!

There's plenty of ~~moddable~~ supplies -- along with a giant drop cloth, since Pinkie loved a good artsy party, but hated the clean up. Make your flag any size, just make it visible, or Pinkie might think you skipped a step.

When it comes to derby, the wilder the better! Time to rock those fishnet stockings and over-the-knee socks! Short shorts and electric pink! There's even some plastic armor pieces in there for those who want a harder-edged look. But don't forget the skates, pads, and helmet, or Pinkie will make you go back and get them.

Now skate once around the track! The only obstacles are your fellow racers! You can do it! Pinkie's even cheering for you all!

And it's not easy to cheer for that many different countries all at once.

When she's not racing, anyway. It's not fair to distract her, after all.

She picked out all the ~~moddable~~ roller derby outfit pieces herself!

Man, I wish my schedule let me be a roller girl. I have, like, six names picked out already and everything.

Cassidy

Cassidy just stared, a lot. She couldn't wear those things! They didn't cover anything!

Cassidy had a great time making a flag with greens, blues, silvers and reds for Kaeleer.

Cassidy looked through all of the outfit pieces in dismay. There was just no way she could wear something this revealing -- no matter what it was for.

That decided, she called in her bag that she always kept packed in case there was an emergency somewhere she needed to deal with suddenly. Digging through it, she was happy to find that she had indeed packed a few pairs of leggings. Once those were on, she found a shirt among the costumes that had some ruffled material that pretended to be sleeves and fell below her midriff. The leggings were forest green and the shirt was a very bright blue, but there was nothing to be done for that. At least she was decently covered.

She managed after a little bit of trial and error to get the helmet pads and the skates on, and then decided that she was ready as she would ever be.

After falling more times than she cared to admit, Cassidy crossed the finish line. If she could get the hang of these things, it could be quite fun to get some to send to Karla and the Coven in Kaeleer and play with them...

She'd have to call Karla!

No one was more surprised than Cassidy that she managed to cross the finish line second.

After her own race was finished, Cassidy was sitting, examining the roller skates. She'd be happy to talk to anyone.

Richie Ryan

Richie had no idea what Scotland's flag actually looked like so he just made a little plaid flag.

Richie was definitely not wearing fishnets. No way. Giant socks (also plaid to go with the theme) were acceptable though. And some of the armor pieces, because plastic armor was still armor and still kind of cool. And the pads and skates, of course.

So maybe rollerskating was not one of Richie's talents. Given rollerblades he might have done better, being from the early 90s and all. But he managed to stay upright most of the time and finished in a respectable position. But for him acceptable was pretty easy to achieve. He just didn't want to be last.

Hanna Marin

Hanna didn't have much difficulty with the flag. It even looked somewhat like an actual flag from Italy.

Hanna had no problem with the getting outfitted part. She chose black leggins and pads and a hot pink skirt. She added a pink and black striped tank top to her ensemble. The helmet, too, was pink.

She was so ready for this.

It wasn't until she got to the track that her troubles began. She just could not stand up on skates. Everytime she tried, she'd just fall on her face. But she was determined to finish. She'd crawl if she had to.

Minako Aino

"Ano, Miss...Pie?" Minako asked, coming up before class. "I am Minako, ma'am, and I was out sick last week."

A white cat mewed and twined himself around her ankles. "OH! And this is Artemis. I try leaving him in the dorms but he just follows me around."

"Ohhhh what a cutie!" Pinkie declared when she saw Artemis. "He should get to meet Gummy, my pet baby alligator! He'll be coming to class sometimes to help judge." Because what else were pet alligators for? "I'm glad you're feeling better," she continued. "Do you want to pick a country to represent for the class? There's bunches and bunches that no one's picked, yet!"

"Japan!" Minako cheered, throwing a 'v for victory' sign. "I mean, if no one else has it."

"Nope!" Pinkie said cheerfully. "It's all yours!"

Billy Kaplan

Yes, Billy put glitter on his flag. It represented Transia's cold, icy weather! Or something.

Okay, so Billy didn't make spandex an every day fashion choice, but he managed to find some clothes that were both bright and tight, but also didn't reveal, er, more than anyone needed to see. In the end, it didn't really matter with how many pads he put on himself to break his inevitable falls.

It had been a really long time since Billy had been on skates, but he liked to skateboard, so how different could it be?

Around the tenth time he fell, he realized it was very, very different, and he was fully embarrassed by the time he rolled over the finish line.

Dammit, Stacey totally won the week she's in Sea City. USA! USA!

Ain't that always the way? Alas.
