Summer Vacation 101, Thursday, Period 1

The class had been handwavily told to meet up in the Danger Shop, much like they would most weeks from here on out. Hopefully their instructor would manage to look a little less tired in the coming weeks, though. She looked like she hadn't slept at all last night. And that was because she actually hadn't. She'd been back to England and it was hard to time your return right between two universes moving at different speeds. She'd aimed for last night but had only just gotten here.

Regardless, the Danger Shop was the interior of a train today, with views of the English countryside whirring past outside, and their teacher was actually in civilian clothes, slumped in a seat towards the front. "Right, this is Summer Vacation 101," she drawled once everyone was seated. "And I'm Electroclash, though I suppose as this isn't a cape class, you can call me Sarah. Or Professor, but I'll probably think you're taking the piss." Because she was so far from being a professor of any kind, and knew it. "Also I have a paper that says I have a grad TA called Cara, so I guess that's the other person vaguely in charge here."

Yes, Electroclash and Cara. Exactly the two people you wanted heading a class about having fun.

"As this is the first session and I'm tired as shit, it's your basic introductions time. Name, how familiar you are with the concept of a vacation ––" You could never be sure in this place. "–– and what you'd maybe like for us to do during this workshop. I make no promises about listening, though. Right, you, random kid, go first."

"Lex Luthor" he said, glad he wasn't going to get called Invisihair in this class. "I'm familiar with the concept, I think we should see how our peers outside of Fandom spend their free time."

By which he meant nightclubs. Totally a vacation thing.

Lex resisted the urge to facepalm. "Only if we display a lack of imagination in where said peers come from," he said. "I'm sure we could find interesting places."

Some of them might even have bars without zombies!

In lieu of saying I think I love you, why didn't you teach at my old school to the teacher, she just said "I'm Ace." She wasn't into volunteering her surname, though she'd answer to it, unlike certain words beginning with D.

"We weren't exactly jetting off to the Caribbeano every summer, but... we did go to Torquay once?" By which she meant one of her mum's gentlemen friends had graciously sprung for bringing the kid along. "Hotel manager was a nutter, but the beach was nice."

She added a shrug. "Anywhere not Perivale or Svartos is cool with me."

"Arse-end of the universe," Ace replied immediately -- then, since that clearly applied to Perivale too, she added, "The arse-end in space, not the arse-end in Ealing."

Arietty was almost getting used to this. But reeeeeeeeeally only almost. She'd scaled to the top of one of the train seats, and now balanced on it somewhat precariously.

"Arietty Clock!" she said, then got distracted by a bit of the passing scenery before she remembered there was more to the introduction than just a name. "I lived under a grandfather clock for sixteen years before I ever got to travel anywhere, so vacations are a little new to me. So really, I'd like just about anything." And there she went, staring at the view again. "Especially more of that!"

Arietty offered a wry smirk. "Yeah, I've found that's true for most things."

"I'm Petra West," Petra said, "and I've been on some vacations before, but not, like, recently. Except for when the school went to Brazil. Oh, and I was stranded on a deserted island for six weeks, but that wasn't much of a vacation. Anyway, I'm totally open to whatever in this class as long as I'm not going to be required to, like, think. That's sort of the opposite of the point of vacation, right?"

"I'm not a big fan of planes?" Petra ventured. "Especially if they're crashing. Oh, and giant snakes trying to eat me I would also prefer to be a no go for the rest of forever."

"Ryan Clark, and I'm sort of familiar with vacations. But I've had few proper vacations. I traveled a lot since my parents were missionaries, but we were always traveling from job to job," she explained. "I'd just like a chance to relax and not do anything."

"My name's Maeby," Maeby said, when it was her turn. "My family took fancy vacations to Europe and wherever, but it meant I had to go with them, so that kind of sucked? It's more fun to cut school and try not to get caught. And, uh, I want to do as little as possible in class. Maybe work on my tan?"

"Richie Ryan," Richie said. "I never did much vacationing other than just not being in school until recently but I'm an expert at the not being in school part of it. And uh, I guess I was hoping the class would just be practice at vacationing. So, pretty much doing nothing."

"Toby Logan. I'd never really done the vacation thing before getting to go on the school trips here, but I did have some idea of the general concept," he offered with a shrug. "As far as what I wanna do... I dunno. I'm basically here to have fun, so- that, I guess?"

Yes, the Mord'Sith were famed throughout the land for their generous annual leave packages...

Cara wasn't sure if however was in charge of the paperwork had it in for her or the class.
