Newbie Shuttle, Portalocity Terminal, BWI {Saturday Morning Fandom Time}

Miriam didn't much care if anyone saw that she was being dropped off at the terminal by the Baltimore Five-O, but she did roll her eyes at Officer Jackass for muttering something about dumping out the trash when he opened the back seat door so she could slide out. For a moment she was tempted to touch him to see if he had a nice painful death, but instead it was Officer Friendly sticking his hand into hers and slipping her several $20 bills and telling her this was her chance to turn her life around, don't mess it up, blah blah blah.

"Flying sucks," she said casually. She'd gotten good at not letting it show when she saw someone's death flash in her mind. "Next time you want a vacation, you should drive cross-country. It's a lot more relaxing. Trust me." He gave her a confused look and shrugged, then patted her on the shoulder one last time before climbing back into the police car.

The first thing she dug out of her messenger bag were her gloves even though it was way too fucking hot for them. There was no way in hell she was going to tell the cops just why she wanted them on or they'd toss her in the loony bin. The second thing was her cigarettes she could suck down some sweet nicotine before trying to find the waiting area for the shuttle to this boarding school. The glittery "Fandom High" sign made that easy enough. She claimed a seat and chewed on a thumbnail as she looked around to see who else was heading to this place. She gave it three days before she snuck out and hit the road again.

"It's probably the sort that's affiliated with the kind of airport that runs their air conditioning in February," Evan replied, raising his eyebrow. "Except there isn't one, since it's almost July. And it's definitely summer out there. It's, like... summer with interest."

Also, it was hot.

Maeby hadn't noticed the air conditioning. It had become a way of life, after a year and a half in the greater Los Angeles area. It would have only caught her attention if it wasn't on.

She hadn't exactly thought the trip through; she had been expecting, right up until the end, for someone to notice the suitcase, or for George Michael to call her and come up with a convincing argument or something else that would make a good third act for Mort. So she hadn't even grabbed her coat.

Good thing it wasn't actually ...

"Okay, where are we, really?" Maeby asked. "Everyone looks insane and that's all summer out, but it's February, so ... Are we in one of those upside-down places? Because I heard they get summer backwards."

Yeah. If you thought that was bad, you should see her try math.

"Last time I checked, Baltimore wasn't all that upside-down," Evan replied, shrugging. "And I'm pretty sure you'd know if you spent like two days travelling to Australia or something. No... really, it's going to be July... Tomorrow? Are you feeling okay?"

It was entirely possible that Evan had only tacked that last question on because he was a brat. Kind of.

Somehow, the wrong month was what did it. Sometimes you needed to listen to your inner GOB and admit: I've made a huge mistake.

"Okay," she said. "This has been ... really interesting, but I think I'm gonna go, now."

There had to be flights out of here. She should probably take off soon, before some kind of parental figure appeared.

"Uh... okay. You have fun, going back to... February."

Really, it sounded like quite the journey. Not that it would be, seeing as she didn't look like she was aware that she'd made the trip in the first place. But, well, still. Time travel? Kind of disorienting, or so he'd heard.
