Sex Cultures

Grissom is definitely smirking.

"No lecture today. Instead, I am going to assign you a partner, and give each team a unique assignment.

Today in class, you should chat with your partner and discuss how you are going to develop your presentation on the topic I am going to give to you. Each team will present on Tuesday.

Now, as you may remember, we have been discussing marriage and its role in our society. Most cultures have a ceremony of some kind, to officially begin such a union. Generally, that's called a wedding. However, different societies have much different ways of conducting weddings, and I think it would be very useful for everyone to see some of these differences first hand.

So..." oh, the smirking. "You are your partner will each be assigned a type of wedding. I will give you each a packet with the information you will need. And then, on Tuesday you will act out the ceremony for all of us with your partner.

Kissing of the bride optional.

And your partners are..."

[OOC: Please remember, no godding that your partner is late to class. Slow-play is our friend. Threads with partners and assignments will be going up in the next few minutes, thanks! Up! Also, mwahahaha.]

Anders sits down, wondering vaguely why Isabel never mentioned being in this class with him, and goes through the information packet.

"Um. I'm guessing we don't have to do the engagement period thing? And wow, that's a lot of bread and salt."

Izzie smiles. "There is a lot of bread and salt. I'm going to have to practice crying apparently. And I don't have a clue how to polka."

"The mandatory crying thing is kind of . . . okay, weird." Anders shakes his head. "And what the hell is a polka? It sounds kind of like a disease. Maybe. Er. Though I'm kind of assuming it's not, 'cause you know, big celebration and everything."

He flips through a few more pages and scratches his nose. "I guess we're gonna have to do this like we can't afford the three-day-long event, because wow. Too bad Grissom won't let us actually do the drinking part."

"Yeah, it seems like quite a party," Izzie replies. "And a polka is a dance by the way. It's very, um, strange. I think it involves an accordian."

Staring at the packet Izzie adds,"Do you think Grissom expects us to include all this stuff?"

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," he says uneasily. "This is days' worth of stuff. Like, with the trip to the church, and offering the wagon driver vodka -- and that can't be a good idea, can it? Maybe we should just pick out all the important symbolic stuff. Like the bread and salt, definitely, since that seems to be the really big thing."

Izzie giggles at the thought of a drunk wagon driver. Then she says,"I agree. We should just choose the stuff that really defines the wedding as Polish, and maybe we could mention the rest in passing. You know, just say something like 'This is where they offer the wagon driver vodka' or something like that."
