Art Therapy! Friday, P2 [Week 1]

Friday morning, there was coffee and cookies supplied. Don’t get too used to that, kids. The enthusiasm would probably wear off just a little as the term went on. The desks were arranged in a circle and on each one students would find an A5 sketchpad.

Angela would be found sitting on one of the desks, facing them all. "So welcome to Art Therapy." She was maybe the tiniest bit excited about this, yes. "I’m Angela Montenegro, Fandom class of 2010. Just call me Angela. I’ll be Ms. Montenegro when I get old." Aka. not yet. "Hopefully you’re all here by choice, if not... I’m sorry, but I’ll try and keep it bearable. I’ve always found my art to be one of the greatest outlets. For stress, for happiness, for anger, and just for expressing yourself and your own individuality. The best art is all about emotion, but you’ve got to know how to tap it. So we are going to be looking at that and also learning how art can help you. Because it can, I promise."

"The sketchbooks are yours for art journaling. Decorate them, draw in them, whatever takes you. If decide to destroy yours... Safety first." Art therapy, guys. She wouldn’t judge. "If you do one of the former, I would love to see it." There was no need to bring back the remains if you went for the latter. Really.

"If you ever have any questions, or problems, or whatever else, come find me or you can talk to my fabulous TA Angelica here."

Okay. That out the way. "It’s Friday of the first week, you all know where this is going by now. I want to know a little about you guys." And she was going to start with you, random student.

[[ ocd a’coming done done done. ]]

Fawn had been spending a little bit of time fondling and admiring the notebook, which seemed to her to have some sort of strange power for all the things that would be captured inside of it through the weeks, and she couldn't wait to start covering its pages with all sorts of dark and wonderful thoughts, so when it came around to her turn to introduce herself, there was a faint smile on her face. She kept her head slightly down as she talked, though, her voice quiet.

"I'm Fawn Farrell," she offered, speaking as thought to the desk or her new sketchbook. "I'm going to be a freshman, and the last artistic thing I did, I guess, was playing my harmonica."

Yes, she skipped the random fact about you part, because she believe that anything interesting about her was best kept a secret, and beyond that, there wasn't much interesting at all.

Ace? Not appreciative of somebody's clearly-deficient sense of humour.

"Ace, I don't get your numbering system at all but my papers say junior, I got expelled from my last school, and the last artistic thing I did was blow up the art room at my last school."

She'd leave them to draw their own conclusions about the connections between items three and four.

"Sam Puckett," said Sam. "I'm a senior." Screw that 'going to be' crap, the old seniors were gone, so she was totally a senior now. "I can knock out a trucker with a carton of milk, and earlier this week, I did some finger painting."

By which she meant she'd painted a portrait of a finger.

"Angelica Jones, and I'll be a junior in the fall," Angel said. "I'm, um, a little better about talking about art than actually doing it, but I like to draw and paint and I've done some ice sculptures."

The last almost "artistic" thing she'd done was make Emma think she'd burned her face off, but she wasn't bringing that up.

This certainly seemed like it was going to be more fun than the rugrat class from yesterday. Juliet was in a good mood as she began her introduction.

"I'm Juliet Darling," she said. "I'm a senior now. I'm a little psychic about my twin Jeremy" -- not really -- "so that's kind of interesting. And the last artistic thing I did was practicing a Tennessee Williams monologue. I want to be an actress someday."

Karolina waved a hand a little bit, when it came her turn to introduce herself. "Hi, I'm Karolina," she said, with a small smile. "I'm a junior, I guess, and, uh..."

Something interesting that wasn't necessarily about powers, go!

"I'm a vegan." Wow, lame. "And the last artistic thing I did was... I doodled on a post-it yesterday?"

"I'm Hanna Marin, and I'll be a senior," Hanna said to the class. "I have a photographic memory with all things fashion related." It was sort of true. "The last artistic thing I did? I helped make invitations and decorations for a sorority event."

Other than that, she wasn't very artistic at all.

"My name is Bucky Katt, and I'm a freshcat. There's nothing about me that's NOT interesting. My work has been featured in dozens of prestigious art shows. And the last artistic thing I did?..."

He climbed on top of his desk, to better show off his handiwork, and held over his head the shredded remains of what used to be his A5 sketchpad. "This is a found-object sculpture that I call 'Ode to a Boring Lecture'. It's a 100% genuine signed Bucky Katt original -- I'd like to start the bidding at three dollars."

"I'm Rapunzel. I just finished my... junior(?) year." Um...

"I really, really like art? And I learned how to do sculpture last semester!" Which was super exciting!

"My name is Ryan Clark, I just finished my junior year, and I've traveled through a lot of third world countries with missionaries," she said. "The last time I did something artistic was over a year ago when I tie-dyed a shirt."

"Shane Gooseman, I'm going to be a junior," Goose said, "I went to military school before I came to Fandom," he paused, "I'm not really artistic," he said, he couldnt' really think of the last artistic thing that he did.

Cassie had already started sketching on the cover of the book.

With her lower lip caught between her teeth, Fawn pulled the sketchbook in closer to her, so that when she opened it to start doodling, it was kept in a private little world, hidden by the curtain of her hair and the curve of her back. She wasn't an artist, and most of the work would be put in in private, so today she started with a spiral, a swirl that started in the center of the first page, which branched out and started growing flowers here and there, sprouting leaves, spelling her name, and then darkening, fading, dying as it reached out toward the edges until the entire page was filled.

Ace might not have appreciated someone signing her up for anything called therapy, but she didn't mind the sketchbook; she liked mucking about with a pen well enough, even if she couldn't draw anything real to save her life. Which was why the first page currently looked like this (http://www.iambicnut.com/rpg/ace/sketch-01.jpg).

Juliet started trying to sketch a cartoon-style portrait of Audrey Hepburn. She wasn't a great artist, but she got points for enthusiasm?

Hanna stared at her sketch pad somewhat nervously. She wasn't really an artist. She was in this class only because her mom thought she needed an outlet to deal with her recent...troubles. She wasn't sure how drawing would help with that, but she'd give it a try.

Ryan had no idea what to draw. She ended up creating an abstract multicolor sketch that didn't seem to resemble anything in particular.
