Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ugh, another roomie? Juliet glanced Sia over and decided she met with enough initial approval to be worth at least talking to.

"Hi," she said, polite but clearly not overwhelmed by enthusiasm. "I'm Juliet, I've been here 18 months. You're roomie number three." She paused. "I don't think the last two left because of me."

"Best to get that into the open before I started wondering," Sia said, not unkindly. "Marasiah. I should warn you that I've never been in a position to share a room before."

Princesses rarely had to do that, who knew.

"I hadn't shared a room before I came here," Juliet said. "It's not too bad. I'll squish my stuff over so you have more closet space. Besides, I'm a twin, so I'm pretty used to sharing."
notconflicted: (tell me)

So far this wasn't going so badly.

"Does he or she go to school here as well?" she wondered.

"Jeremy does, yeah," Juliet confirmed. "He's hiding in his room today because his girlfriend graduated and he's all sad about it, but you'll meet him pretty soon. Do you have brothers or sisters?"
notconflicted: (sitting)

Sia shook her head. "It's just me," she said. "My family is very small."

"Ours really isn't," Juliet told her. "So ... what do you need to know to help you get settled? Was your school sibling nice?"
notconflicted: (half profile)

"Nice, if... interesting," Sia said diplomatically. "She was convinced the murderous bears at graduation were angry at people for destroying their ecosystem."

"There really were bears," Juliet said, trying to be diplomatic about it. "But nobody really got hurt. The rest of it, it's ... nice for people to have causes?"
notconflicted: (so very serious)

"She means well," Sia agreed.

"She does," Juliet said, not really needing to ask who Sia was talking about. She means well was practically Britta's middle name, and the Marasiah sign had been hard to miss anyhow. "Anyhow, let me know if I can help you get settled at all."
