Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

When Butters found out he was getting a new roommate since Sam was moving out to shack up with his girlfriend, he was so excited. He danced up to the table with the new assignments to eagerly take in who one of his new best friends was going to be.

"Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar," he read out loud, slowly, wanting to get the words right and he contemplated on them. "Oh, boy! I sure hope I'm pronouncin' that right."

It sounded so foreign! This could be an adventure, and he bet that this Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar guy was a real swell fellow! Now if only he could spot him out, though he supposed he could always run into him back at the room, too.

=No,= Zeela said. =Just no.=

::Hush,:: Sholeh told her sister. ::We agreed you'd stay quiet, remember?::

Sholeh slowly made her way to the boy who was yelling her name, trying not to look as uncomfortable with the notion of sharing her room with a boy as she felt.

"Umm, excuse me? It's Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar," she said, correcting his pronunciation just slightly.

"Oh!" Butters turned to the helpful girl with an appreciative grin. "Is that how it goes? Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar....Thanks! Do you know him?"

"Him?" Sholeh asked. "No, I don't know a him with that name. Or rather, I'm him. Or he's me, I guess. Well, no, I mean, because there's no him, there's only us. I mean me."

There. That wasn't confusing at all, right? Though Sholeh's face was almost as red as her hair by the time she was done with that.

"I'm Sholeh," she said finally, ignoring her sisters' (thankfully silent!) amusement. "That's what I'm trying to say."

Butters tried his best to follow that. There was a lot of nodding and head tilting and blinking involved, and he thought he got most of it, but, thankfully, she summed it up for him in the end. It took him a second for everything to completely settle, but, once it clicked, a great big smile broke out across his face.

"You're Sholeh!" he said happily. "Oh, gee whiz, I didn't know I was getting a pretty girl for a roommate! That's even better."

But the happiness fade as soon as he said it. He then shifted uncomfortable. "Well, I mean, that is...oh, hamburgers. I sure hope it's okay with my parents that I have a girl for a roommate; that sounds like something I could be grounded for."

Sholeh blushed again, but her dimples were out, which meant she was more pleased than embarrassed.

"Oh, I'm not the pretty one," she said quickly. "That's my sister, Zhahar. She's the pretty one, everyone says so."

Oops, wait. She wasn't supposed to mention that.

"Uhh, not that you're going to meet Zhahar. Because she's not here, obviously. It's just me! All by myself! No sisters here for you to meet, not at all!" She gave him a weak laugh, nervously playing with her hair, and went to change the subject. "Your parents might punish you because I'm your roommate? That doesn't sound very fair. My mothers will probably be upset when they hear about this, but it's not like it's our fault!"

Butters laughed, too,, though he didn't really understand what he was laughing about. But, usually, if a pretty girl was laughing, it was usually a good idea to laugh with her. But then he bit his lip, and his blushing was definitely an embarrassed type. He ducked his head and scuffed his toe on the ground a little.

"Yeah, my parents are real strict," he shared. "I mean, they just do it 'cause they love me so much and they don't want me to turn out all bad or nothin', which isn't easy, because God made me wrong, just wrong, but I do okay. I guess it won't be too bad; if they didn't ground me over my last roommate bein' a stoner hippie, I'm sure they won't ground me over my new roommate bein' a girl. And you have more than one mother? Gee, what's that like? I've only got the one."

"I'm a good girl," Sholeh said quickly. "At least, I try to be. Sometimes I forget to do my chores because I'm reading and I stay up too late, but it's more because I forget about stuff, and not because I'm deliberately misbehaving!"

Books were just more exciting that either chores or sleeping, was all!

"As for having more than one mother--" yeah, using the plural had been a mistake, Zeela and Zhahar were giving her an earful about that, "--it's what I've always known. I don't know how to explain it. It's just having...more than one, I guess."

"Well," Butters said, thoughtfully considering this, and he shrugged, "I guess it might not be that weird. I mean, not everyone's got just one mom and one dad. My friend Eric's mom is his dad! And, you know what? I think you're gonna be a pretty good roommate, Sholeh! I don't mean to misbehave, either, and sometimes it just happens because you don't mean for it to, but maybe we can help each other out with that! I want to gay camp once, on account of me bein' a little bicurious, and we had this thing called Accountabilibuddies. That's where you keep an eye on your friend to help keep 'em out of trouble, and it sounds like you and me could both use one. I mean, if you wanna be Accountabilibuddies, anyway. Bein' roommates is enough, too."

A gay camp didn't sound so bad, it actually sounded like something fun! Though Sholeh was unsure what being bye-curious meant. Perhaps Butters had a habit of wandering off by himself?

"Well, I wouldn't mind someone to keep me from messing up while I'm here," Sholeh said. "Especially since Fandom is so new and so big! But I don't know if I'll know everything that I'm supposed to watch out for!"
