When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Terry didn't have a particularly strange reaction to the name of his roommate. He actually had friends back in Gotham with weirder names than 'Bucky Katt.'

So he was on the lookout for this Bucky guy, although he was probably looking a few feet too high.

Roommates?! Really?! Fine, whatever. Hopefully, this "Terry" person didn't mind her stuff getting all clawed up. Also, hopefully, she wouldn't mind carrying his suitcases up to their room, because there was no way Bucky was managing it.

Bucky had already made the concession of putting his nametag -- "Bucky Katt, sertifide jeenyus" -- on the top of his head, where it would be easier for the towering mountains of suckitude to read it. Why hadn't any of them thought to accommodate him?!

"WHY CAN'T ANY OF YOU PEOPLE STICK YOUR NAMETAGS AT EYE LEVEL!?!" he shouted.

Terry heard the complaint and looked down.

"You've got to be kidding me." He was desperately hoping that the tiredness finally caught up to him and he was dreaming.

"Have I, now?" Bucky demanded. "I've 'got' to be kidding you? You seem to pretty sure, for someone who just walked up. What are you, the humor police?"

"Nope. It looks like I'm your roommate, Bucky," Terry replied.

"Oh, are you?!" Bucky asked. "...No, seriously, are you? Bend over, ogre-man, I can't read your nametag from here." He pointed a claw threateningly in Terry's direction. "And I'm warning you -- if you snore, I will end you."

"Terry McGinnis," Terry said. He wasn't going to bend down just because a cat told him to. And I'm sorry, but I'm not that scared of a cat."

"Well, you are sorry, Terry," Bucky told him, "But that's not why. You humans are just a sorry race, all thinking you're better than everyone else and everything. You better just be glad I'm not in a bad mood!"

"You're not?" Terry asked.

If this was Bucky in a good mood, Terry was starting to wonder if Bruce would loan his dog out for a couple weeks.

"So, now you're the mood police, as well as the humor police?!" Bucky asked. "You're going to be the most annoying roommate EVER!"

Said with no trace of irony.`

"Well, this is going well..." Terry muttered. "Look, I'm not trying to be any kind of police. I was just... a little surprised."

"You need to work on your 'surprised' face, then. You're not doing a good job of showing it."

"You're just saying that because you can't see it from all the way down there," Terry pointed out.

"If you try to pick me up, I will shred your flesh to ribbons," Bucky told him. "That's not a threat, that's a promise."

"Like I really want to touch you. I don't know where you've been, Whiskers," Terry said.
