Cindy was looking about as mutinous as her students likely felt as they entered the room for their last class. She had been planning a fun final using the Danger Room, but considering the board members were still here, that was apparently out of the question now. Also, her shoes pinched, a phenomenon that was also pinching her temper. Cindy loathed ill-fitting shoes. They offended her even more than the rest of the uniform combined.

Look, it was a thing with her, all right?

"Welcome to your final," she said with forced cheer as her class filed in. "I want to thank you all for being an excellent class. While this final is challenging, I have no doubt that you will all pass it easily, considering the work and effort you have all put into learning about symbolism this semester. If you finish the test early, please entertain yourself quietly until the end of the period. I wish you all the best of luck, especially those of you who are seniors, with all of your future endeavors."

With that, Cindy passed out the final exams and the ubiquitous tiny blue notebooks and sat behind her desk. Certainly not fantasizing about what she'd like to do with certain board members, no.

There were no urns of coffee or platters of pastries today. Woe.

<1>Question 1: Someone has ties a white sock to a stick and they are waving it in the air. What are they trying to say? How do you know?

Question 2. What does intertextuality mean and how is it related to our study of literature?

Question 3. What are the five qualities that make up a quest?

Question 4. Choose one color and supply one meaning for each, as well as how it is often used. For example, red often means 'stop' and is the color used in traffic lights and signs.

Question 5. Write a sex scene that contains no sex at all OR a scene where a character goes on symbolic journey to the underworld.

Extra Credit: Write a scene for whichever option you didn't pick for Question 5.

But not during the exam!

Yes, it was always best not to bother Natalie during an exam.

This, at least, seemed like an actual academic class, and Mrs. White was making pleased sounds as she jotted on her clipboard. "Tell me, Ms. Perrault," she said, "How long have you been teaching here?"

"Since January of 2010," Cindy said, giving the board member a smooth, practiced smile--even as she tugged irritatedly on her jacket sleeve. "Mostly teaching literature classes for the students."

"And do your finals usually require your students to write porn?" Mrs. White asked, still making notes on her clipboard. "I do not judge, mind you, just picking which students and classes to steer our benefactors away from."

"I'm perfectly fine with not rubbing elbows with our illustrious benefactors," Cindy drawled. "Though I would object to the use of the word 'porn.' Unless, of course, you are also considering D.H. Lawrence, Freud, and Chretien de Troyes to have written pornography as well."

"If Mr. Howell has ever read Lawrence in his life, I doubt he actually understood what was being said," Mrs. White answered. "However, I believe he would object to having the word 'sex' used in a co-educational classroom. His delicate heart, you understand. Most scandalous."

Driving 11 hours today. Will pick up pings Thursday.
