"World History," Monday, Period 4

Tyrion’s uniform, while well-tailored, still itched. He loathed cheap fabrics.

It was small comfort to know the rest of the school was suffering along with him.

“Good afternoon,” he said briskly, as he passed out the test. “Today is your final exam in this World History class so—obviously – there is no time to waste. If you have further question or comments about the test, or about the class in general, I will be in my office on Thursday.” When, hopefully, the visitors would be long gone.

He paused, managed a tired smile for the students. “I genuinely enjoyed getting to know each of you. For those of you who are leaving school soon, I wish you the best.”

And then there was nothing to do but watch the students write. He trusted they’d be bright enough to realize that the questions, while passingly “normal,” did not depend on knowledge of any specific world.

A written exam? Oh, Firekeeper was not best pleased. Even less pleased than she was with this stupid uniform. Or the fact that Blind Seer had decided it would probably be simpler if he just spent today hunting in the Preserve.

Dany was doing her best not to fidget too much in her uniform. The fabric was more restrictive than what she normally wore (by quite a margin, actually), and she'd made the effort to braid her hair in a style more befitting an average fifteen year-old of this country.

But she didn't feel like herself. And more importantly, she was trying not to fly into a sudden panic at the prospect of a written exam on a world where she'd barely mastered the basic continents.

Anyone looking Petra's way might notice that her uniform appeared to be much more flatteringly cut than, well, all of theirs. Also, on-trend, what with that shrunken, fitted cut to the blazer. Also that her skirt was substantially shorter than it was probably supposed to be. She couldn't help it if she was five-eleven, right? She was also accessorized to within an inch of her stylish life.

Did you want to look this good in this monstrosity? You could! Just ask her how.

Karla generally didn't notice what her fellow students were wearing, but it was kind of hard not to notice Petra when she was the only one whose uniform was not entirely a monstrosity. She tried to catch Petra's eye and mouth the word, "How?"

Petra smirked at her for a moment before pausing to write a note and pass it to her. Took it apart at the seams and put it back together. Who needs sleep?

She twisted in her seat so she could show Karla how her blazer was now lined with a darling floral print--in cotton. Oh natural fibers. How she adored you.

Karla looked at Petra's uniform. Her jacket. Then glanced down at her own: the elongated skirt, the itchy shirt, the shapeless fit of everything...

I will pay you in coffee, supplies, and anything else you need or want to fix mine, too, was the immediate response.

"Take a test"? How about "sit here and scribble some markings on the test paper, in an effort to make it look like she was in fact writing a test"?

That underlining gave Dany pause, and she glanced over at Lord Tyrion. The man was too clever to attempt to give them an exam on material they hadn't covered, school board or not.

She took that as her cue to use the knowledge she did have. Her answers were filled with tales of old Valyria, of the Rhoynar invasion, of the Dance of Dragons, of admirations of Westerosi kings and queens past.

At least she was confident he'd understand what she was talking about.

Squall took a moment to admire the test for how well it masked the true nature of Tyrion and the class.

He answered the first three questions with facts and material from the classes he'd taken in Fandom. His answers were short, the way they usually were.

The fourth question, though, was one that he felt compelled to use an example from his own world for. He answered it with huge amounts of pride and glowing praise for the potential of the Sorceress Rinoa

Petra took a moment to admire how artfully done the test was before she started answering questions--from her personal knowledge, of course, and so some of her answers might appear juuuuuust a little odd at first glance. Such as when she went into a brief digression on how cults of personality were not the same as good leadership, citing MoMo B. ChaCha of the Republic of ChaCha.

Ben smiled slightly at the brilliance of the question's wording--what else could be expected from a strategy teacher, really--before getting to work.

His answers drew equally from his experiences in his home galaxy and the extensive research he'd done into Ender's version of Earth, with plenty of space devoted to how each world's lessons could be applied to the other.

If Karla hadn't liked Tyrion before today, the exam certainly would have won her over. She gave him a bright smile before bending over her exam, providing very, very long-winded answers about Kaeleer.

Her last answer dealt heavily with the coming of Witch, for the first time in fifty-thousand years, but her last few paragraphs spoke of a future plan to implement the many lessons she'd learned here at Fandom.

1. Shumi. You know, when they're not going insane and trying to kill half the students in Garden.

2. The losing side lost because the idiot pretending to run the show was being brainwashed by some psychotic bitch from the future, and then got his ass kicked by his former friend who is now dating his ex-girlfriend.

3. They listen to the people. And they're not insane megamaniacal morons.

4. Beating the psychotic bitch.

"Professor Lannister, is it?" Darby asked, having checked her notes just before walking into the room. In deference to the exam-in-progress, she kept her tone low. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Enchanté."

"I do apologise for the... inconvenience," she said, "but it looks like you've got things under control."

She paused.

"... I also apologise for the uniforms. I assure you, had I any say in the matter, they would be..." Not polyester. Probably still plaid, though, or at least the skirts. "... More suitable to a school of this calibre."

Re: TALK TO TYRION + TAS [4/16]

[identity profile] kentucky-darby.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Darby sighed. "I must say, it's certainly nice to speak to someone being reasonable about all of this," she said. "I'll admit that Chairman Colbert's attitude is... excessive, but the idea of covering things over for a few days? It's necessary, if the school is to go on functioning the way it is."

Re: TALK TO TYRION + TAS [4/16]

[identity profile] kentucky-darby.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Darby nodded. "I'm honestly not certain of the specifics," she admitted. "To be perfectly honest, I didn't know that they weren't aware until this trip was announced."

She smiled softly, shaking her head. "I must ask. Are all of the island's residents as... vehement in their beliefs as those I spoke to last night, at the meeting? I understand that this is something of a safe haven for those who can't be themselves at home, but I thought that would mean they'd do anything they could to protect it. I didn't expect such reticence to the idea of hiding yourselves for a few days."

She paused.

"Despite the lamentable wording of Mr. Colbert's letter."

Darby did actually manage to look a little chagrined at that. "In my defence," she pointed out, "I'm not from somewhere that this kind of thing happens. Knowing about Fandom Island is one thing, but seeing it in person is another thing entirely. And, tattoo or not, it will still need to be covered up while the Howells are on the island."

She smiled, though, as her plan fell into place in her head. "I'll apologise to Mr. Starsmore when I see him later -- I'm heading to the theatre to say hello to Troy, anyway."

"What? Oh, goodness, no," Darby replied, laughing perhaps a bit too loud for the classroom. Especially given the exam in process. "My son Ryan's boyfriend's best friend, and one of his closest friends. Ryan helped Troy purchase the theatre here on the island."

"I don't believe he has yet, actually," Darby admitted, "but he's been so busy with auditions of his own, and he just got a part in a new show opening off Broadway."

And what was Sharpay doing? Best not to ask.
