"Leadership has its drawbacks, of course," Scott said, starting things off oh so positively. "If you commit, really commit to your team and make sure they work together as well as possible, carefully balancing their strengths and weaknesses into a whole that ends up being greater than the sum of its parts, you may find yourself lacking in your own individual abilities."

"This is actually very common. By the time you've worked your way up the ladder into a leadership position in a company or another kind of team, not only are you spending less time with whatever skills helped you get there in the first place, but you're probably going to be leading people from the next generation who have the benefit of being raised on refined techniques and technologies. There are countless groups out there being run by people who have no practical knowledge of how to do what their team can do easily for the simple reason that they were already in management when new tools started being used."

"Ideally, you want to avoid that. You want to be able to keep your skills sharp so that you understand things better and can do it on your own if need be. So now and then you need to go solo," Scott said. "No puns on anyone's last name intended, of course." ~~By Scott. NOT BY ME. Mwahahahaha.~~

Of course Scott wasn't punning off of Anakin's surname. That would be silly.

Looking to keep your mind sharp? Here's a topic. Pick a side - it doesn't have to be one you even believe - and find someone to debate the other side.

This debate? How were the children who were here last weekend? Would you be happy if they returned next month?

Pair up. One student must argue positively for the topic, the other must argue negatively.

"Well, I wouldn't mind," Rebecca said easily enough. "Considering the cat who showed up at my door refuses to leave."

She liked him, though. Shh, don't tell anyone.

"Are you secretly half-cat or something?" Ben asked.

Rebecca sighed. "Not to my knowledge," she said. "My assumption is it's sort of an adopted-mother kind of thing." Then she shrugged. "Or it had nothing to do with the weekend at all and he just wandered in off the street."

"Did he go back through the portal?" Ben replied.

"Not unless the portal was a magical gateway back to my windowsill."

"Weirder things can happen," Ben mused. "Right, topic. You wouldn't mind the visitors coming back, even if they weren't all cats?"

"Not really," Rebecca said, shrugging. "The noise was easy to get used to. Ish. And if a kid showed up for me, I could always hire a freshman to babysit them!"

Beat.

"How about you?" Waaaait. "Not for the babysitting. I mean, would you have an issue with the kids showing up again?"

"Well, since you are pro, I'm anti," Ben mused. "No, I don't want them back. They give us glimpses into lives we might never have and make people depressed for a week after."

"Yeah," Rebecca reasoned, "but aren't they cute?"

Said with the overexaggerated sarcastic enthusiasm of a baby-hater.

"Most things are cute when they're only around for a short time," Ben said. "A week of taking care of kids and we'd be drop-kicking most of them through a portal."

Beat.

"Granted, we might be shoving other people's kids through first..."

"Nothing against Ethan, but I hope he stays where he belongs," Quinn argued. "Not only am I not even dating his dad, but next fall Bruce will be in Gotham and I'll be in Connecticut. It is not time for us to have a kid -- even one practically as old as us."

"I miss River," Squall countered. "I want her to come back."

No, there wasn't any reason or logic to back up his argument, or even any real argument to speak of. How would he feel? He would be happy to see his kid again. End of discussion.

"Do you have a job?" Quinn countered. "A place to live? Money? It's great that you liked her, but it's not fair to anybody to keep a child you can't support. Besides, we're young. This is not the time for us to tie ourselves down."

"I'm perfectly capable of supporting a child, and I don't mind being 'tied down'. If you want to convince me it's a bad idea, that's the wrong argument to use."

"Aren't you from a different world or whatever?" Quinn drawled, inspecting her nails. "Great. You play by different rules. I get it, but it makes it harder to argue."

She flicked at a bit of dry cuticle. "Okay, so what happens to River's real mom and dad in the world where she comes through the portal again and stays?"

"That's the right argument to use. Her parents would come here to rescue her and take her home, even if it meant having to hurt other people to do it." Squall shrugged. "It's not very responsible. But the question wasn't whether we'd keep them, just whether we'd be happy for them to come back."

He raised an eyebrow at Quinn. "You don't want to see your son again?"

"Not especially," Quinn shrugged. "The portal kids are just the island lying to us in a creepy way. I mean, I want kids, but when I'm 30 and have a good job and a husband I'm crazy about. Not now."

She frowned, picked at a cuticle again. "I wouldn't ... drop him out a window or anything."

Did she sound horrible? Oh well.

"Wouldn't drop him out a window," Squall repeated dryly. "That's not very high praise. Did you get one of the annoying ones?"

"He thought Bruce and I were the lamest people on earth, but that's not the point," Quinn said. "Even if he was awesome I wouldn't want a kid hanging around all the time."

Her lips twitched in a smile. "What was your kid like?"

Looking to keep your reflexes sharp? Grab a paddle and start smacking the puck around a cushion of air on the table, looking to score a goal. The pace can get pretty intense.

Pair up and battle. Standard combat rules apply: the defender decides if the puck went into the goal. Play until someone scores 5 goals, or whenever you just can't describe what a puck is doing anymore.

Squall leaned over a table, clutching his paddle like he was about to wreak havoc with it, and looked around for a challenger.

Ironically, there are two of them.

I can't get this out of my head, causing this class to happen:

Just be glad I didn't have this before last week's class about dancing. Also, all of the Kinect dance videos are AMAZING.

I've had YMCA in my head since this morning. But the Kinect version of it.
