Paleontology, Feb 8th (7th period)

The dinosaur-shaped cookies are back. This time with milk for all your dunking needs.

"Last class we talked about general site considerations. Today, we're going to pack for our expedition. Well, sort of.

Obviously, the carrying capacity of the trucks is the most important factor in deciding how much we are able to bring.

It is a lot of work to figure out exactly what to bring and where to pack it in the trucks. And, we can't forget to set aside room for the team members!

Also, we must take into account these six packing rules:

You cannot pack more than the carrying capacity of the truck (or the truck will get stuck in desert sand).
You cannot overload the roof rack (or it will collapse and cause an accident).
You cannot put people on the roof rack (they could fall off).
You cannot put gas cans inside the truck (the smell of gas is not safe or pleasant for passengers).
You must pack the truck emergency kit near the rear door (in an emergency, the tire-jack and flashlight must be accessible).
You must bring enough food for each person each day in the field.

For homework please complete this worksheet- and don't worry, our expedition won't be nearly as long. We'll only be gone for a weekend."

Sharon signs in and takes a handful of cookies, feeling rather hungry. She also grabs a glass of milk to sip, and perches happily in a desk.

Janet took cookies and milk eagerly. But she sure as heck didn't make the dinosaur cookies fight a dinosaur battle and dunk the losing dinosaur cookie in milk while pretending the glass was the La Brea Tar Pits. Because that would be silly of her.

Munching a cookie, Sharon considered the options for packing, then frowned, "But is there room for cookies?" Not exactly the best question to ask. But it was better than trying to decide why you'd want extra gasoline.

Or even what gasoline was. She really should read up on the vehicles in this place.

"I don't think you should be allowed to go on any kind of a trip without cookies," said Janet.

"This sort of reminds me of that computer game, Oregon Trail," says Rose.

1. 150 lbs
2. 870 lbs
3. 3480 lbs
4. 4270 lbs w/jackhammer
NO - 4200 lbs is the max (truck w/4k lbs capacity, rack w/200 lbs capacity)
5. *hands in a halfway decent sketch with everyone in the truck wearing smart doctor glasses*
6. 1570 lbs of equipment/food needed to get home.
therefore, 2630 lbs of fossils able to be carried in 1 truck

I find it ironic that this is the picture without smart doctor glasses.
