Practical Mythology, 3/28/12, Period 2, [Class Session 12]

Today Hercules' class met in a normal classroom. At each desk was a set of knitting needles and a ball of yarn. Once everyone had gathered, Hercules grinned and clapped his hands together.

"Arachne!" he proclaimed. "A woman who declared she could weave better than my sister Athena, which was not only boastful but rash. Athena is a complete psychopath, and did not take such a claim lightly. Now, Arachne refused to say that her talent came at least partially from Athena herself."

Hercules shrugged, not really knowing if it did. "It probably didn't, but I can't say. Athena then set up a weaving contest between them, and Athena got her butt kicked."

He laughed, because Athena getting her butt kicked pleased him, but then he grew somber. "You see, not only did Arachne weave a much more magnificent tapestry, but she also wove one which showed all the horrible things the gods have done in the past. Athena, in all her wisdom and justice, literally tore the tapestry to pieces, clawed at Arachne's face, and then turned the woman into a spider so that her weavings would no longer threaten her."

He shook his head. "And to think, when she tried to destroy the universe, I was surprised."

Herc then gestured to all the knitting needles. "So instead of forcing you all to weave, I instead am going to try and get you all to knit. Knit against the gods! Knit... whatever you feel like. And if you don't know how, here is a helpful video to get you started."

He then pulled down a screen and projected a short video for the class.

[ooc: OCD comin' up. Class is up and running!]

Fortunately, Rilla taught Bruce to knit a couple years ago. He picked it up quickly from there. Before the end of class, he had a couple new pairs of socks.

Karla was a little frustrated. Weaving, she actually knew how to do! Knitting...was a bit beyond her skills.

Dammit, gods! Ruining everything...

Let's not ask how Darcy managed to attach herself to the desk. Or how she was going to free herself.
