"I want you to talk about your subject," Rita said without pause. "Why did you pick them? And then turn your writings in."

She smiled.

"Let's hope I don't have to light anything up again. And, so help me, if a single one of you other than Mr. Malfoy or Ms. Tyler decides you're British, you will find out what it's like to be an animal of my choosing."

"So. Go."

Draco stands up and begins to speak. "I wrote about my girlfriend." he says "Lily. I suppose I wrote about her because I find her very beautiful and she's the only thing worth writing poetry about right now."

He also turns in his writing: The subject of my destroyed poem was my very pretty girlfriend Lily. We’ve been dating for around five months. She’s a muggle-born witch and a very good one at that.

"My subject was a painted bucket that does not, to the best of my knowledge, exist in reality," Peter said. He was hoping that honesty was the best policy here. "I chose it because I attempted to use a limerick in class and had trouble thinking of class-appropriate phrases that rhymed with 'Nantucket.' 'Bucket' seemed to be the safest bet."

He handed in his assignment.

This bucket is a good example of the storied Nantucket tradition of bucket-making. The bright colors used in the beach scene painted on the side are typical of the local bucket art community.

Thank God. "Understood."

Peter smiled. He figured she was probably just glad that the product of his overactive imagination didn't involve her personal life.

Anakin cleared his throat. "I wrote my poem about water. The planet where I grew up was a desert, so water was, um, important to us. And since I'm a Jedi and not allowed to experience most of the emotions that poetry tends to talk about--love and whatever--I wrote about what I knew."

He gave Professor Skeeter a small smile. "I am a trained mediator, though, Professor, and if you'd like to try to patch things up with your husband, I'd be happy to offer my assistance."

He dropped off his homework:

Water's a precious and rare commodity on the desert planet Tatooine. Moisture farmers struggle against sandstorms and Raiders to pull enough rain from the sky to ensure their families' survivals.

Peter wished he had some popcorn after hearing the mediator comment. This could be fun.

"Um," Anakin looked vaguely panicked. "It's going to be all right, Professor."

"Um," Anakin repeated, looking even more panicked. He reached out a hand to pat her on the shoulder.

"We're just concerned about you, Professor," Anakin lied.

Anakin looked stung. "Well, fine," he said. "Don't go around having breakdown in classrooms, then."

Anakin rolled his eyes. "Seriously? Your first attempt was much more realistic-sounding."

Anakin muttered something about "turnabout" and "fair play" not quite under his breath.

Quinn looks sympathetically at Professor Skeeter. "Boys suck," she says.

And perks right up. "I wrote on the hot new security Mountie, who is the only not-gay guy in the entire school I think. I haven't gotten a chance to really talk to him because we can't possibly be together until I turn 18 and it would be soooooo painful to remind ourselves of that, but he's really pretty and a nice guy and really, those are kinda rare."
