Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

"Short and sweet from me today, people," Scott said as the class began. "Because a valuable part of leadership is being able to impart wisdom to your team. I've assigned teams. Get together and see if you can't teach each other something new and useful. And I know that's vague, so define that however you want, but keep it within reason. I'd rather not have you learn that I'm willing to give detentions if anyone bleeds or something."

Scott waved a hand to indicate the start of teamwork. "Have at it."

Most of Bobby's useful skills revolved around three things: math, jokes, and beating up supervillains.

So he turned to Susan assuming she's there and said with a shrug" "What are your feelings on practical jokes?"

After discarding the options most likely to get her detention, most of Cara's teachable skills revolved around punching.

Quinn was going to do her very best to teach Jack a basic cheer routine. Mostly because she thought it would be funny.

Teaching! Rebecca could teach. Hey, maybe she could teach Britta how to be cooler!

No, Rebecca. You couldn't teach her. She was the worst.

See, Anakin thought he knew a lot of useful things. He wasn't sure how well he'd be able to teach them, though.

Mainly because patience was not at all his strong suit, but he was contemplating his options here.

"So," Warren said, offering Anakin a little smile as he approached him. "I have... no idea what I'm going to teach you."

That was helpful.

"I mean, unless there was anything you wanted to learn?"

It wasn't that Warren didn't know things, but it was hard to just inform someone that they were going to learn those things without first knowing if they knew anything about them or not.

"A lot of things, actually," Anakin replied, but scrunched his face up as he realized that didn't narrow things down at all. "But I'm not sure showing me how I can finally beat my sister in a starfighter race is something you can show me."

He considered. "But if it is . . ."

Warren grimaced a little. Nope. He was definitely not qualified for that, right there.

"I really don't know the first thing about starfighters," he admitted. "My area of expertise when it comes to flying is a little less... interstellar."

He stretched a wing slightly to demonstrate.

"So you're not from around here, then? Is there anything about Earth that's been giving you trouble, maybe?"

Yeah, this was why Tahiri was the jokester and Anakin was the straight man. He was terrible at jokes, most of the time. (Like his brother, except unlike Jacen he didn't keep trying anyway.)

"Just that it's a lot more primitive than home, some ways." Anakin looked a little sulky about that, yes. He did that a lot. "Maybe . . . you could explain to me why pizza is such a traditional food at gatherings around here?"

Just curiosity, really. He liked the pizza.

Warren couldn't help but laugh a little at that. Oh, that was an easy one.

"I think that's mostly because you can feed a lot of hungry teenagers with just a couple of them, and get toppings to suit anybody's tastes," he offered. "And we can pretend pizzas are actually healthy, now that the government is telling us they count as a vegetable."

He wasn't going to knock it if it gave him an excuse to eat more of it, okay?

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-03-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's all?" Anakin laughed. "I thought there might be some cultural significance to it or something."

You could sort of argue that there was, though, couldn't you? Because it was traditional.

"It's only cultural if culture is synonymous with 'cheap and easy' wherever you're from," Warren replied, still smirking a little. "Mostly, it's just that we're all too lazy to put together something different each Frat meeting or whatever."

See? Warren was teaching! Kind of!

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-03-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It was more structured than "Here, go do this," which was about as much as Anakin had gotten in some other fields, so hey.

"Well, it makes sense. And now I know," he decided with a little nod. "So it's my turn to ask if there's anything you want to learn, I guess?"

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[personal profile] wwiii 2012-03-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Warren took a moment to seriously consider that question, tilting his head a little to the side as he thought.

"I'm really not picky about what I learn," he admitted. "I've got a long way to go with a lot of things, which is kind of why I'm here, you know? But if there's anything that you're really comfortable with that you wouldn't mind walking somebody else through, I'd be all for it."

He wasn't kidding when he said he had a lot to learn. His experience with the world was still kind of limited to his time on the island. With a definite skew in the direction of not getting himself killed, admittedly.

Sadly, Anakin was hardly qualified to teach anyone how to do normal everyday teenager things. Basically at all.

"Flying things, programming computers, building machines," he rattled off, then frowned. "Puzzles?"

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[personal profile] wwiii 2012-03-10 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Flying, Warren pretty much already had handled. Computers and machines wouldn't do him a heck of a lot of good after graduation, if he wound up in Kaeleer. So...

"What sort of puzzles?"

Warren actually enjoyed those, so if Anakin had anything that he hadn't seen before, he'd probably be thrilled.

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Any kind, really." Anakin ran a hand through his hair. "I've got some 3-D ones that are pretty astral. Or just using logic to solve practical problems. They're easy once you figure out the trick to them." Not that his player ever has. Wah.
wwiii: (Mmmhmm :))

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[personal profile] wwiii 2012-03-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I've never really seen a 3-D one before," Warren admitted, after a moment. "I used to do logic puzzles just to pass the time, so I think I'm already pretty set for those."

Logic wasn't really something that could be taught, anyhow.

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. So much for that idea, Anakin.

"If I show you one, do you think that counts as teaching?" he mused. What? It sounded like fun.

[personal profile] wwiii 2012-03-10 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't see how it would count any less than me explaining pizza does," Warren allowed. "I guess you'd be teaching me... what a 3D puzzle looks like."

That was totally legit, boys.

Re: Teach Each Other Something

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I could give you one, even," Anakin offered, brightening.

Totally legit! Even if that fell outside the bounds of 'teaching' even if you squinted and . . . spun around in zero-gravity while squinting.

In a very squinty sort of way!

"It could be like homework," Warren agreed, his feathers fluffing a little behind him and a grin on his face. "Solve the 3D puzzle before next week."

It could be done! It was totally possible!

... Right?

Squall looked at Tony thoughtfully. Most of his own skills were of the killing monsters variety, and Tony was more of the science and technology type.

Well, maybe something that everyone could enjoy, then. He pulled a deck of collectible trading cards out of his pocket and started dividing it into two stacks of approximately equal strength.
