Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

"Let me tell you about a guy named Logan," Scott said, standing next to a table in the middle of a fake park again. That's right, Danger Shop day. "No relation to Rebecca. But this Logan is a surly guy, constantly drinking, smells like a cigar bar around the clock, even when he hasn't smoked all day. Terrible manners, tries to pick up other people's fiancees, easily the most violent person I've ever met, absolutely no respect for authority whatsoever."

"If I'm being completely honest, whenever I'm with him, I want to punch him," Scott said. "But I don't do it. At least not yet."

"That's how you deal with interpersonal conflict in a nutshell. Because, let's be honest, any kind of team you're on, somebody's going to rub you the wrong way. And if you're leading a team, that person may very well be opposed to the very idea of working with you. But you have a job to do and, frankly, an example to set for the rest of your teammates."

"You can get through some of it with discussion and trying to come to terms with each other. Sometimes there's just no way you can possibly work with each other and can't stop fighting. Most of the time, you can find a middle ground," Scott said. "Like I said, I always want to punch Logan. But I have to grudgingly admit that he's one of the first people from my last school I'd call if I really needed help." After the rest of the faculty. Several of the students. The professor, obviously. Jean's corpse. Magneto (maybe).

"So, in a change of pace, not only am I going to let you pick your own partners, but I encourage you to pick somebody you don't really see eye to eye with. Take a few minutes, come to terms with each other, and then we're going to do a water balloon relay game. More on that in a couple minutes."

"First, find a partner. Preferably one you don't get along with!"

The 'don't punch them' warning was implied.

Ben wondered if he sounded like that when he started ranting talking about Bean.

Huh.

Well, hmmm. The people Bobby knew best in the class were obviously right out, since they all happened to be people he liked. The rest... he didn't know well enough to make that sort of judgement, but he figured "don't know" was close enough to "don't like" for the purposes of this assignment.

[ooc: afk all morning, but should be around in the afternoon!]

Rebecca eyed the rest of the class, decided that the people here she didn't like were numerous, but also people she'd rather not participate with, then made a beeline for her fellow TA.

"Partners?" she offered.

"Works for me," Bobby said with an easy shrug. "You have a preference for catching or filling?"

Rebecca sighed. "Depends on how good your aim is, I guess," she said with a longing look toward the vast, vast distance.
longislandiceme: (thumbs up)

"Pretty good, actually." When your life more or less depended on being able to have something you throw hit its target, you got pretty good. "So, you take filling, then?"

Re: Find a Partner

"Catching," she corrected him with a hint of a smile. "As long as your aim's good enough not to splash me."

See how smart she was? See it?

"You're still gonna have to throw it in the bucket," Bobby pointed out. If her aim was crap, they weren't really going to get much done.

"But," Rebecca said, "I won't get wet." So, win.

"The water only lasts until the program stops running, but whatever, your choice," he shrugged. He didn't plan on getting wet either, as it happened. Which was admittedly somewhat easier when one had the unique relationship with water (even temporary Danger Shop water) that he had.

"Great," Rebecca chirped. Though now that she thought about it, the prospect of getting wet would've been a decent excuse to take her shirt off. Ah, well. "Shall we?"

Cara would surely have no problems with this, she had such a bright, sunny, co-operative disposition, after all.

"Want to pair up?" Quinn asked. She didn't have any huge argument with Cara, but she figured being vaguely intimidated by someone counted.

Only vaguely? Cara was letting herself slip.

"Why not." Clearly she had buckets of enthusiasm for this exercise.

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2012-03-02 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The enthusiasm was dipping off both of them.

"Great," Quinn said, wandering toward the relay set-up. "I'll catch, you fill."

Cara considered pointing out the lack of water balloons where she came from, but, well she was a quick study, and it wasn't like she was going to bear the consequences of figuring them out.

Anakin considered that to anyone who didn't know them, the way his parents interacted sometimes might lead you to think they didn't get along. Which, of course, they hadn't at first.

. . . huh.

He didn't particularly dislike anyone in this class (although getting along with Rebecca could be challenging), but maybe that was because he spent too much time absorbed in his datapad.

Apparently no matter how different some universes were, there were some things that held true across them. Apparently the way Scott felt about Wolverine was one of those things.

Bobby would just be over here, doing his best to keep a straight, solemn face as the lecture went on.

Rebecca eyed the balloons and gave a mournful sigh when she heard what would likely be happening to her outfit.

Ugh, water balloons.
