Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

Class was in the Danger Shop again, although the shop looked suspiciously like the park once again. Furthermore, there were unmanned rickshaws all over the place.

"General George S. Patton once said, 'Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results,'" Scott recited.

Seemingly leaving that as a non-sequitur for now, he moved on. "So far in this class, you've discussed leadership qualities, looked at your personal philosophy, and tried to find either a leader or a consensus in a group to achieve construction and prevent destruction last week. But one thing I've held off on so far is forcing you into leadership," Scott said. "That changes today."

"You'll be paired up and you'll have to make two trips around the park in a rickshaw. During the first lap, one of you will be pulling the rickshaw while the other is in the seat. For the second lap, you'll switch places. Don't worry, the rickshaws are light enough that you should be able to pull them without much difficulty. And even if something goes wrong, like you crash into a pedestrian or a dog, the Shop will keep you from getting hurt. But not from being scared or embarrassed."

"And of course there's a catch."

Scott reached into one of the rickshaws and pulled out a blindfold. "This is for the person pulling the rickshaw. You'll be doing that job completely blind. The only way you'll know when to turn, how fast to go, when to stop, or what you're doing at all is by listening to your partner as they direct you. Leadership has been thrust upon them. They're responsible for both your safety and their own. But you're also being timed, so you're going to have to move faster than a crawl." Did you really want to find out what Scott had planned for teams who went too slow? Did you?

"As Patton said, 'tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results,'" Scott repeated. "Good luck, everyone. Try to surprise us."

Rickshaw Lap 1

The RNG has determined pairs. Choose who's going to steer blindfolded and who's going to lead for the first lap of the well-marked (for those who can see) course, then have at it. Include as many or as few Danger Shop-created park obstacles to impede your travel as you'd like.

Yeah, someone had trust issues, although if anyone asked she'd claim it was just that she was better at giving orders.

"Oh, this will end well," Jacks said omniously as he tied on the blindfold and picked up his end of the rickshaw. "Just remember if you run me into a wall it's your fault."

"I have no plans to do that," Cara told him as she climbed into the rickshaw, not unless he gave her a reason to. "Now get going, straight ahead."

"I'm steering first," Quinn announced assuming Alex was there.

First, because she was the girl and that was how things worked, and second, because she figured she was probably better at being bossy while blindfolded.

Rebecca eyed the rickshaw. For some odd reason, she didn't feel much like being a bitch today. Fancy that.

So she sighed, and turned to Warren if he was here and his player wasn't dead of animation to commiserate. "He's never heard of a chauffeur, has he?"

"I have my doubts," Warren replied, looking thoughtfully at said rickshaw, and then offering a little, kind of extra-wingy shrug to Rebecca. "So, how are you with communicating? It would be pretty much no effort at all for me to pull the rickshaw for the first lap, but if I'm going to be running at a breakneck speed trying to keep ahead of the pack, I'd really rather not actually break my neck."

Of course, he'd get better. But it wasn't like she'd know that.

Hi, I woke up at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep. This afternoon's gonna be FUN!

Also, I somehow missed my chance to get into the office absurdly early (for me) despite this. Oh well.

ETA: Oh! I should note. There's no restriction on powers since Scott didn't mention that this time. Whether or not your character is willing to test that out after they were explicitly banned last week is a matter for you to figure out.
