Superheroing 101, Thursday, Period 4

"Today's topic is super teamwork," Electroclash announced once most if not all of the students had made their way into the room they were meeting in this week. It was a regular classroom, and she was standing up front with a projector. By the look on her face, the topic seemed to be particularly displeasing to her, but wasn't that always the case? "Which I think is a load of bollocks but the SPA want it covered and apparently they're spying on me through the radio like utter creeps so I guess I have to."

Your dedicated teacher, ladies and gentlemen.

She sighed. Heavily. Then she got out a paper with a big SPA logo on it, and consulted that for the next bits. "So this is different from having a sidekick. We're gonna get to that later. This class is about teaming up with another superhero, whereas working with a sidekick is about getting stuck with some whiny kid who's basically a glorified assistant." ... Okay so she may have been ad libbing some of the stuff. "I was in a superteam once ––"

The SPA mandated projector had about five seconds to show the front cover of the first and only issue of Ladytrouble's comic book before Electroclash snapped in her electronic voice, "|Projector don't work.|" to shut it down. Too bad about the rest of the SPA's slide show.

"–– and it was shit. I don't recommend it. But the SPA wants you to consider it so I've divided you into teams and I need you to think about team names and what your joint shtick is that makes it seem like you weren't just randomly assigned into groups. Extra credit is both are equally stupid."

Ladytrouble because they were both ladies (well, women) and caused trouble, see? Sigh. It had been She-Force's idea in the first place, yes.

"Right. The teams are as follows: Flamemover with Average Girl, Invisihair with G.I. Blast, The Flying Sycophant with Magic Slicer, Magicka with Ghost Hotline, Imagilad with Excelsor Jr. and Guardiangifted with Emotion Taxi and Slightly Less Average Boy." Yeah, she was going to keep using those names. (Sorry, Raven.) And no, she didn't care whether all of the named students were actually present or not. "Get to work."

[Wait for the OCD is a go!]

Karla could barely remember her own name for this class, never mind what anyone else was called (except for Raven's, sorry Raven), so she did the practical thing and scrawled 'Magika' on her notebook and held it up in front of her.

Hopefully that would help...Ghost Something?...find her.

Ghost Hotline was having the same problem so Karla didn't need to worry. He finally did track her down after some process of elimination and some good guessing.

"Hey there," he greeted, giving her a wave. "Guess we need a team name. I'd suggest Team Lame but that really just applies to me."

Aww, Karla was sad her sign didn't work.

Karla gave Sam a smile. "I don't know if that's the kind of name I want to be known for, it's true. You're...Ghost Caller?"

"Ghost Hotline, I think," Sam said, slanting a glance at the teacher. "It makes me sound like a psychic friend."

Karla snickered at that, having seen enough late-night teevee to get that joke.

"Still beats Emotion Taxi," she pointed out a moment later. Sorry, Raven. "Though I'm not sure how our names are supposed to combine. Unless...Magical Hotline? Crafty Callers?"

...Those both sounded dumb, even to Karla's ears.

Oooh, a superhero team. Stephanie was totally down with those. Now, what to call it? Hmm.

"Was the name of her team really 'Lady Trouble'?" Elphaba said, thinking the name quite... unfortunate.

Re: Team Names & Gimmicks [Heroing 01/26]

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Stephanie had no room to judge, but she thought so too, going by the look on her face. "I dunno, I think that lacks a little pizzazz, don't you?"

Re: Team Names & Gimmicks [Heroing 01/26]

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Elphaba nodded. "Not that I can think of any better names," she admitted. "In our case, Average and Flame? It's not exactly like they have a built-in theme."

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooo." Stephanie tapped a finger against her lips. "How about Medium Heat?"

Painful wordplay was part of the Robin job.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Elphaba's brow creased, but she smiled as well. "Well it's as good of a name as any," she said, thinking about it. "And our 'schtick' would be leaving evil-doers... slightly reheated?"

"Stewing in their own juices," Stephanie decided. "For a long time."

"Stewing in their own juices," Elphaba repeated. "I like that. Making them suffer in extreme discomfort."

"And," Stephanie added, holding up a finger emphatically, "making them think really good and hard about what they've done."

More Bruce's MO than hers; she'd rather just let them rot (and didn't really think there was anything wrong with killing the worst offenders), but she was working on keeping that whole secret-identity thing secret.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I really like the way you think," Elphaba said. She smiled. "I'll have to thank the teacher for pairing us up."

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"You do?" Stephanie, still unused to compliments, blinked in genuine surprise. "Wow. Um, thanks. I try my best, you know?"

Re: Team Names & Gimmicks [Heroing 01/26]

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-27 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"You definitely know more about this whole superhero thing than I do," Elphaba said. "Though we don't really have them as a 'thing' in my world, so that's probably a bit of it."

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2012-01-27 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
"They're common enough at home that I have posters on my bedroom walls," Stephanie explained. Not that there was much in the way of wall space for the posters, but . . .

"The news eats that stuff up. Zingy catchphrases and fancy onscreen graphic slogans galore."

Team names. It wasn't as bad as the wearing lycra, but she still wasn't impressed.

Kate pulled a little face, and hoped that the Sycophant was a more creative team-namer than she was.

Oh yes, the boy whose team name was a copy of another team's name that was given to them by reporters was totally good at this. "Have you ever had to do this before?" he asked.

"Never had a team to name before," Kate answered honestly. Honestly, she didn't always work well with others, a tidbit she decided to keep to herself.

"Anyway, i's all I can do to remember my own code name."
