Basic Strategy, Monday, Period 4
As the students took their seats, they would each find a book being rather firmly placed on their desks.
"Books," Tyrion informed them, once he'd finished the process of handing them out, "are the greatest tool there is in sharpening a mind. You may not think you need a sharp mind; perhaps you can get by on charging at things with a sword. And certainly that will work for some of you some of the time. For the rest of the time -- and especially for ensuring you have a properly full mind in a time of crisis -- there's nothing like reading."
"I am aware that there are other ways to obtain and store information on the island, but from what I can tell plain words on paper retain some popularity. Let's stick to those for the day."
"Your assignment is a simple one. Take the book I've handed you at random. Read as much as you can from it in the next half-hour. Then turn to the person next to you and have a discussion about what you read, and how you can see using the information in the future. And, sometime over the next week, pick out a book from the library or bookstore that talks about something you know nothing about, and be prepared to explain it to me when we next meet."
"Blysse, please see me for an alternate assignment."

Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
She was kind of confused by how the book said he died of asthma in one paragraph and of heart disease in the next, though...
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
He was starting to doubt this book's credibility.
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
She wasn't sure if this information was useful, but it sure was cool.
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
Two pages in he was no longer reading, but he was banging his head on the desk, softly.
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
At least it wasn't about mistletoe.
Re: Read & Discuss [1/23]
He wasn't quite sure why, but it was the coin that had been minted in his honor, with "EXCELSIOR" written on the reverse side, that interested him the most.

Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
Never mind that her inability to read was mostly due to her own stubborn refusal to learn.
"You wish to see me?"
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
"I did," Tyrion confirmed. "As you'll be unable to do today's project. I've been casting about for alternatives, but I'm not sure what I could suggest that wouldn't insult you. What do you normally do to keep your mind sharp?"
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
...Did demanding explanations of things count? Because she certainly did that.
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
He looked to her, to see if she was following. "What do you do so your mind feels ready when you need it? I read incessantly. Someone else might make music or play card games."
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
"I watch," she offered. "And listen. A wolf who does not do such is soon a dead wolf."
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
"Then what I want for you to do," he said, "is to watch and listen for at least an hour in a place where there are other people around. And then come in next week and tell me three things you learned -- I don't care if they're insignificant. Will that work?"
[OOC: Handwaviness totally fine, of course.]
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
"This will do," Firekeeper agreed with a pleased smile.
Re: Talk to the Teacher & TAs [1/23]
"I hoped it would," Tyrion said, with the faintest hint of a smile. "That's all for now."

A bored Loki was a dangerous thing.
