The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

For once, Jeremy actually came into the gym on purpose when the club fair was being set up. There was at least one club he knew he wanted to sign up for, after all.

So, he grabbed himself a copy of the club schedule, and set out to explore his options.

Annie was looking a little happy to be here at the table today. Except for when she looked over at the cupcake table. Should they have cupcakes? Is that what she should have been doing with her night last night instead of studying? Were cupcakes a thing and she'd missed it?

She was happy. Happy and slightly neurotic.

"Thanks for taking this over," Quinn said. "How's it feel?"

She was a little sad to be stepping down, but the truth was she'd run out of inspiration -- and, anyhow, she'd run it long enough for it to go on all her college applications. Annie and Rilla could keep sorority going while she chilled a little.

"Pretty good, actually," she admitted, like that should be news. "It's going to be a little weird without you in charge, though."

"It'll be a little weird going and not running things," Quinn admitted. "But I trust you guys. Smack me if I try to get bossy, okay?"

"Literally?" she asked carefully.

You always wanted to be clear on this with Annie.

Quinn blinked, because it didn't sound like Annie was joking. "Maybe it would be better if you just told me off."

She'd gone a year and a half without getting into a catfight, and she didn't want to wreck that record over sorority.

"Just making sure," Annie said quickly.

"A sorority," Rebecca said, eyeing the sign. "In high school?"

She was judging, but doing an excellent job of not showing it.

"Well, yeah," Annie said cheerfully. "It's never to early to give back to your school and community while promoting sisterhood."

It was like she'd practiced it in the mirror.

She hadn't, though, believe it or not.

So she'd practiced in another reflective surface?

"Are there even any parties?"

Rebecca. Really now.

"Oh, yeah," Annie said. "We have mixers with the fraternity and Pride. They're a lot of fun."

As long as others wore their ugly sweaters, too. God, people.

"Nice," Rebecca said approvingly, quickly forming entirely the wrong idea about those mixers. Then, feigning concern: "And those don't get too crazy, do they?"

She was just trying to judge how much fun they were!

"Not that I've ever seen. If there was anything really crazy, I'm guessing people were discreet about it."

Now she was totally wondering, because it was all way more interesting in her ~~terrifying~~ imagination now.

Good answer, Annie.

"Then I'd love to join!" Rebecca said brightly, uncapping her pen and scribbling her name down on the sheet. "Lovely meeting you, ah..."

One day she would learn people's names. One day.

"Annie," she smiled. "I'll see you there..." Peering at the name on the sheet. "...Rebecca!"

Dorothy was looking almost lost as she went from table to table. When she saw Annie, however, she smiled and walked over.

"Should I be joining this?" she asked, trusting her big sibling would not lead her astray.

"Well, I think so, but I'm biased," Annie smiled. "Do you know what a sorority is?"

Dorothy thought about that for a second, then shook her head. "The word seems familiar, but I don't think I know the meaning. I must have read it somewhere before. What is it?"

"It's a group of girls who get together to do things like projects for the school, and we have get togethers with the frat- which is the boys- and socialize and have fun," she explained.

"Oh, that sounds just great," Dorothy said. "I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to join. I definitely would like to help the school in any way I can."

She was eager to do so, in fact.

"Great! Then you should definitely sign up," she said. "We do things like makeovers and stuff, too. And it's a good group of girls."

"Makeovers?" Dorothy said, having stopped in mid-reach to sign up. "What are those?"

They weren't exactly popular in the early 1900s. Or in Oz.

"Oh, well, it's just this really girly thing where we'll paint each other's nails or do each other's hair and put on makeup," she said. "It's like bonding time."

"Oh," Dorothy said, thinking that sounded quite fun. She signed her name on the sheet. "Well after that explanation, I could hardly say no. I'll look forward to every meeting."

"Great!" Annie said happily. The happy thing was a theme today, when Rilla wasn't calling her a strumpet. "And I'll look forward to seeing you there!"
