Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

Scott sent out an e-mail letting his students know that they were going to be meeting in the Danger Shop this week. And as probably half the class knew, when you put Scott Summers in charge of a group in a room whose name began with 'Danger,' things were going to get pretty interactive.

This was probably a different kind of interactive than those people were thinking, though. You could probably tell that by the fact that Scott was holding a balloon in the middle of a park on a sunny day.

"A crucial part of leadership is understanding how to actually work in a team," Scott said, kicking things off. "So today, we're going to be doing a small team-building exercise."

"I've put you into four teams of four. You're going to be building balloon towers. The goal is to build the tallest tower you can before the end of the period using nothing but the provided balloons, rolls of masking tape, and your wits. And if anyone here has powers, those are forbidden for this exercise," Scott said. "So no flying up to dangle a string of balloons from the top of the room, no telekinesis to stabilize the tower. If you do that, I'll use one of my powers."

Scott pulled out a remote and pointed it at the balloon he was holding. It popped. No, he wasn't going to use optic blasts for that.

"Good luck."

Was that a suspicious smirk as he said that? Nah, couldn't be.

"Of course they can handle climbing a tree," Cara said, gesturing at them assuming they were there and the tree. Climbing trees was not hard. "I'm just questioning whether Anakin and Ben should follow a stupid plan from someone who can't be bothered learning their names." Just because Cara didn't always use people's names, didn't mean she didn't learn them.

Anakin (who, it must be said, had zero idea whatsoever what Rebecca was doing batting her eyelashes, and wondered if she'd gotten dust in her eyes) snorted and rolled his eyes. "Of course I can climb a tree."

Honestly, these things were twigs compared to the Massassi trees on Yavin.

"What kind of question is that? Besides, can't you?"

What? Pretty much every female in his life could do it. Actually, the least likely of anyone he knew to be able to climb a tree was C-3P0. (He wouldn't put it past R2-D2.)

"That's a very good question." Cara laced her voice with approval. "You can actually climb a tree, right Rebecca?"

"Not in this skirt," Rebecca said again, primly. Turning to Anakin, she offered with a twirl of her hair, "So if you'd like to give it a shot..."

Anakin, who was already chafing under the no-powers rule (he usually did), gave her an incredibly impatient look. "I don't see why you can't do it since it was your idea," he grumbled. What was she doing with her hair?

"I'm sure you could do it better than I could," Rebecca pointed out in not at all a flirty way except that... Rebecca. "You look pretty strong."

Ben made a face, mostly because watching someone hit on his cousin was kind of gross. "But not incredibly gullible," he added.

Oh, like Anakin even realized she was doing that. "I don't see what that has to do with anything either," he muttered. "How are we supposed to do this without any tools?"

"I think that's the point," Rebecca informed him through gritted teeth.

She was steadily losing patience for this group of actually very competent boys. And Cara.

"I realize that," Anakin said peevishly. "That doesn't mean I can't be annoyed about having to figure it out."

He said, as if Rebecca wasn't being very helpful. Because he didn't think she was.

Ben wasn't going to lecture Anakin on the dangers of relying too heavily on the Force--he wasn't his dad, thanks.

"Being annoyed doesn't really complete the assignment faster," he said.

"Since Rebecca can't climb the tree," Cara began, because she agreed that Rebecca wasn't being at all helpful. "We can probably start by stacking them."

Even if they weren't architects, Mord'Sith tended to know a little about structures, it wasn't like those frames capable of supporting a full grown man's weight maintained themselves.
