Chihaya, after arranging, rearranging and arranging again what few things he brought for his dorm room, decided the gnawing sensation in his stomach was unendurable.

He trotted down to the cafeteria to eat before deciding what to do next. He could smell the pancakes before seeing them and as they are one of his favorite, trots over to grab as many as he could before they whacked him with a spatula.

Kiki's sitting at a table, eyeing her pancakes suspiciously, clutching a butter knife tightly in her fist. There's a black cat on the table beside the plate, tail puffed, fur on end, and hissing.

"Um... excuse me, but... does the food here always fight back?"

Eyeing the flapping flapjacks, Chihaya stifled a giggle and sat across from the girl. "I don't know but from what I've heard goes on here with tentacle monsters and gremlins and this big white rolling balloon and interdimentional lockers and a gun happy principal, I don't think it surprises me that it fights back."

He looked at the cat, then to the pancakes again, then to the girl. "Hi!" he said cheerfully. "My name's Chihaya!"

"Remind me never to try the turkey surprise, then." She smiles, but still keeps one eye on the pancakes. "I'm Kiki. I'm a witch - and very new here. This is Jiji."

The cat has calmed down a bit, and is sniffing at Chihaya's plate.

"I only got in the other day - but I've been here long enough for my first class: Manipulation, Myth and Magic, with Professor Jareth. What are you taking?"

Cutting his pancakes, Chihaya took a bite, then offered the second one to the curious cat. He liked cats.

"I think they are still trying to get stablizied around here with new students still coming in and new teachers being hired," he said around his mouthful. "I have Primary Math, Intro to Anthropology, and the instructor is totally hot, Creative Writing, Journalism with an instructor I think eats children or something for breakfast, and Professor Hellboy's Paranormal 101 but I haven't seen a class announcement for that one yet."

Jiji sniffs it again, and then delicately takes a bite of the pancake.

Kiki giggles. "Jiji definitely likes you. And.... he says the pancakes are pretty good." Without further hesitation, she digs into hers.

"My other two classes are English and Intro to Business, but I haven't yet seen any announcements for those, either. Let me know how Professor Hellboy's class goes; I think I might take it the next time it's offered - I'm really a pretty inexperienced witch; that's why I transferred here. Education and structure, or something."

"I'm here because my partner said I should finish my schooling and since I can't go to school in Ede- ah...back home, he enrolled me here." Chihaya reached out tentatively to pet Jiji. Taking another bite, he offers another, then to Jiji. "I'm glad you like me. I like you too!"

"I have no idea what to expect in Paranormal. Earthi-...people around here have very strange ideas about things that happen. I thought it would a nice way to learn about superstitions but with the things at this school? I'm sure it will be one of my more normal classes," he said, laughing.

Jiji lets Chihaya scratch his chin, purring.

"No kidding!" Kiki agrees. "This school - I've never met so many strange and different people! I think anybody who makes it through a semester here should automatically get an A for Paranormal whether they took it or not. Did you see that boy who was beaten up by the tree? Ouch! Do you think-"

She's interupted by a loud crash coming from the kitchens, as if a huge pile of pots and pans suddenly fell.

"What was that?!"

The loud noise startled Chihaya and his fork clattered to the plate. He whirled around to the sound of the noise. "I don't know...sounds like the kitchen..."

He gave Kiki a wary look. "I'm not sure I want to know."

"I'm not sure I want to know either... Do you suppose it's true, that rumor about cockroaches the size of Labradors?"

Chihaya's eyes grew very wide. "Labrador? Noooo...I hadn't heard that one." He slowly started eating again, partitioning some of his pancake off for Jiji on his plate.

Looking down at his pancakes, "Makes you wonder if they were the one who made breakfast."

Kiki makes a noise kind of like a gasp and a squeak.

"C-cockroaches? Made breakfast?" She stares at her plate in horror. Jiji, meanwhile, has no problem and is happily chowing down on the pancakes.

Realizing what he had suggested, Chihaya looked down at his plate again, suddenly not very hungry. He pushed it toward Jiji. "Sorry about that," he said, chagrined.

"Um... it's ok." Kiki sits looking at Jiji, who has meowed something that sounded an awful lot like "Thank you!" and has moved on to the rest of Chihaya's pancakes.

"If you eat all those, Jiji, you are going to get fat. Or turn into a cockroach. And if that happens, I'm not letting you into my room until you get yourself changed back."

Kiki looks thoughtful. "Squids in the bathroom. Cockroaches in the kitchen. Gremlins everywhere. Do you think the professors do this all on purpose as part of our curriculum, or is it more that they just don't care?"

Chihaya paled at the thought he might turn into a cockroach. Suddenly, he couldn't stop looking at the cat, hopeing and willing Jiji did not change into one either.

"Maybe they didn't call in an exterminator when they opened the school?" he offered as a solution. "Or maybe, this is like some twisted version of boot camp, seeing if we can survive everything that gets thrown our way?"

"It must be. On the other hand, our principal does enjoy shooting things, so maybe she keeps all this around for, um, target practice."

Kiki, too, is warily watching Jiji, who settles down on the table with a happy sigh. "Neither of us ate much, Chihaya, so we're safe. I hope. I'm going with that theory, anyway. We've got a really great school doctor, I heard..." Kiki brightens a little as she says, "Of course, if we did turn into cockroaches, we could just get jobs working in the kitchen."

Chihaya giggled. "Well, I was looking for a job or an assistantship before I end up with detention..."

Kiki nods. "Ah, yes... those mandatory 'extracuriculars.' What sort of things are you interested in? In addition to my plan to join the Flying or Wildcrafting clubs, I'm planning on starting up my business here again - once things settle down a little. I run 'Witch Express Delivery.' I figure there will be more than one person here who will want a fast, reliable delivery girl."

"Really?" Chihaya seemed interested in that. He hadn't thought of being a delivery service and since he had wings, it's not like he'd have to ride a bike or anything.

He thought about what he was interested in and shrugged. "I haven't been on Ea-...umm...hadn't really thought about it much. But your delivery service sounds like it would be a good idea!"

Kiki drums her finger thoughtfully. "Once I get started, I'd be happy to have some help! You know, we should apply to the 'Start your own business' class. I think it's closed, though, because you have to sign up in pairs. We could go talk to the professor later, if you want."

"Nah. That's ok but thanks!" He grinned at her. "I got my hands full with my classes anyway, I'm not sure I have the time for another. But if you need anyone to help you, I'm in room 502 and don't have much of a social life during the week. I go home on the weekends though...unless I get detention, I guess."

Kiki returns the grin. "Sure! I don't have a big social life here, either - you're my first friend. I'm in room 414." Kiki's voice drops. "But I should warn you, there is a really creepy guy living down the hall from me. He sings to himself - innocent songs, but not the way he sings them. He was singing as he went past this morning, holding a red rose. And a dagger! I heard he stabbed the rose to some girls' door down on the second floor. So just be careful around him."

Kiki picks up her plate. "I guess I should take this back to the kitchen and go finish setting up my room. I don't have class until this evening, so I'll be around all day. Hope to see you! And not looking like a cockroach!"

Cheerfully, Chihaya waved. "Ok! See you later!"

I'm not familiar with the fandom, but I can tell by the way you've played him what sort he is, and the hilarious thing is that Kiki is almost exactly the same. Raised to be cheerful, polite, respectful, helpful, generous... which makes it even funnier that our two characters are having a (relatively) calm breakfast (brunch now?) in the middle of all the chaos. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of trouble our two non-deviants will manage to get into!
