Paleontology, Feb 6th (7th period)

Tommy's sitting on the edge of his desk as the students come in to the classroom. Once class starts, he hops up and begins pacing the front of the room as he speaks.

"All right, so as you all know- we're going on a field trip sometime this semester. What you don't know is that it's in a few weeks. Leading up to that, we're going to start delving in to some more hands-on stuff. Today I want to talk about selecting potential sites. What sorts of considerations do you think we need to take in to account? And I'm talking about more than just 'there should be fossils there'. What if the area we want to study is difficult to access because of geographical reasons? Or even political ones?"

"No presentations today, just hand in your homework."

Sharon nodded in agreement. "And they could be in caves." Not that spelunking (she had a dictionary, and knew how to use it) sounded bad. This just didn't seem like the weather for it. "We definitely need one candle flashlights."

"If we go into a cave?" asked Janet. "Flashlights, rope, sturdy hiking boots. Don't paleontologists use miniature pickaxes to get the rock off of fossils?"

"Harnesses would be good too. Proper climbing gear. I think you'd want the place to be dry, pretty accessible and big enough for all of us to get into." Kawalsky still wanted to go to Triassic Gardens.

"If we wanted to do a cave, anyway," said Janet. "I'd think it would be cold this time of year. Couldn't we go someplace warm? Though regardless of where we go, we're going to need to take along food of some kind."

Janet prayed that no one suggested MREs. Ugh.
