Student Council meeting (Lunch)

Josh put down his crossword puzzle when the Student Council arrived.

"Okay, we didn't get much accomplished last week. My political campaigning students are already tired of me saying this but if it's not on paper, it doesn't exist. So. Valentine's Day dance. It's been pointed out that that holiday," he made a face, "falls on a Tuesday this year. Does anyone have some kind of deeply felt belief that a dance on February 17th would be the worst thing ever? If you do, speak up now."

He looked down at his paper. "We also need to come up with finalized Spring Break trip dates. Classes are out March 6-10 with weekends on either side. How long would you like to be gone? And, um, where do you want to be going?"

He smiled at Isabel. "I like the idea of game night even if last weekend was bad because of, and I can't believe I'm saying this, snowmonsters. I'd say pick a night, toss up some posters and have fun."

He cleared his throat. "Our list of potential dances now includes prom, Arbor Day and something about square dancing that I'm really hoping you don't expect me to demonstrate because that's never going to happen."

Josh sat back down. "Old business, new business..." he waved his hand. "Whatever. Knock yourselves out."

Parker stared at Alanna, then said, "No. And given how stupid people here can get, I don't think we ought to suggest it. Someone's sure to end up in the clinic."

"And seeing as how we just lost our doctor, that would be doubly bad."

Alanna opened her mouth, closed it, and then tried talking again. "Good. Because, um, odd tradition. Lot's of kids are often born nine months later." Her cheeks are a nice red color.

Parker blinked. "Ah. And yet another kind of 'ending up in the clinic' we want to avoid. Given some people here at the school. A straightforward dance on the 17th is probably a much better idea. And we can always have Lisa Cuddy lecture people on their way into the dance."

"And DEATH could put up a balloon animal display by the door!"

"As a Student Council member does it mean I have to go?" Alanna is sincerely hoping the answer is no.

"That's a really good question," Peter said. He was hoping for the same answer as Alanna.

"What? You wouldn't enjoy spending the evening watching everyone that's part of a couple being sickeningly sweet celebrating a holiday that exists mostly because of the greeting card and floral industries?" Isabel asked sarcastically.

"Oh, no, sounds like a blast, really. I might just have something better to do that night. For example, anything that would keep me from going to the dance," Peter said, grinning.

Isabel laughed, "Why does watching paint dry sound like a good alternative?"

"Well, if it's a bright color of paint, it might make you bored in a cheery way," Peter suggested. "Better than bored and depressed at the dance."

"I'd rather skip bored and depressed and go right for bitter and mocking." Isabel responded. "It's a little more fun in a sarcastic kind of way."

"True. Crank the bitter and mocking up high enough and it would almost make it worth attending. And, hey, around here? With the drama potential this place has at any given moment? It could actually be fun in a sick and twisted way," Peter said.

He had come to the realization that he may have talked himself into going to the dance. Dammit.

[OOC: From the right account this time.]

"It definitely does have potential. If you don't wind up in sugar shock because of any sappiness." She sighed, "That sad thing is? Last year, I had enough flowers that my dad thought we'd opened a branch of the florist at our house and my choice of dates for the evening. Now? My priorities are a little different I gues."

"Last year, I..." Peter trailed off. "Well, at least I have platonic friends this year. That's one step forward!"

"That's a start," Isabel agreed and then laughed. "Spending the evening mocking with friends. This might be my best Valentine's yet."

"It would be my best by far," Peter said. "I'll see you there, right?"

Re: Valentine's Day dance

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course. Even if the sole reason for the dance is celebrating the joys of couplehood, it's still a party."

"Good point. I'm officially there," Peter said.
