At students entered they might have noticed that three of the classroom walls were covered with still damp plaster, and paints and extra buckets of plaster were set up near each wall. There are also a number of books on Roman fresco painting, in particular that of Pompeii. (Warning: links lead to not particulary NWS images)

"Frescoes were a very common form of Roman art. A fresco is when you paint directly onto still wet lime mortar or plaster so that the paint soaks into the wall as they both dry. Today, you get to make one.

"I've divided you up into three groups, each group will take one wall to paint on, choose your subject from the books provided.

"While you will all help paint your fresco, the History of Art students will be responsible for choice of subject matter, and the Studio Art students for directing your artistic efforts. You haven't much time so get started as quickly as possible."

Kara wanders over and says, "So, History of Art students, any ideas?"

"We need to do fruit, or something equally innocent to avoid breaking Xander's brain," Isabel said. "I'm Isabel by the way, I don't think we've met before."

"Hi. Kara Thrace." Kara thinks for a moment. "Fruit? Kinda boring and not really innocent if you really think about it," she says with a wicked smirk.

"True. What do you suggest then? If we break him, I'll buy him doughnuts until he feels better," Isabel grinned

"We could do doughnuts," says Kara, tapping a paint brush on her chin thoughtfully.

"Doughnuts and naked Romans?" Isabel considered it. "It would be different."

Kara laughs and says, "Naked Romans with doughnuts held in strategic place. Yes, it must be done."

Isabel facepalmed. "Oh my... I think my own brain just broke.

"Definitely," she snickered. "We definitely have to do this."

Kara grins and gets to work painting the base for their wall.

"Since my artistic skills are pretty much limited to non-existant, you're going to have to tell me what to do." She's still snickering. "I hope Professor Autolycus appreciates our sense of humor. Maybe we need to bring doughnuts to class next week?"

Kara hands her the large paint brush and bucket of white paint. "You take over with that while I prep the other paints we need. Just cover the whole wall.

"This I can handle, ~~unlike the multiple threads which are currently kicking my ass~~" Isabel said. "And there's no lines to worry about staying."

Xander glanced down at Priapus again; he couldn't help it. "Possibly they might need to be bundt cakes in a couple cases."

Vala walks over just in time to hear this. "Um, I take it the Romans weren't big into doughnuts then?" she smirked.

Kara shrugs and says, "I have no idea."

"Well, I think I can just about manage paining a doughnut. You want to do the ancient Romans to go under them?"

"Sounds good," she agrees.

"What's a doughnut but fried sweet dough? Who doesn't love fried dough?" She grinned, "It's a universal treat."

"Also good for ring-toss, depending on the size of the doughnut," Xander added. This time not glancing down at the book.

"That's it, I'm sticking to croissants anymore." Isabel said. "Doughnuts have been ruined for me forever."

Zero takes up a brush and pink paint. "Naked with doughnuts. Dirty!" She sounds very amused.

Isabel laughed. "I may never look at a doughnut the same way again. I'm Isabel Evans by the way. I know I've seen you around but I don't think we've ever been introduced." She held up her hands which were covered in white paint. "I'd offer to shake hands but...."

"Zero Hopeless-Savage. Nice to meet you."

"I'm not sure whether you're losing that Best Roomie Ever title right now, or cementing it."

Isabel put her arm around Xander's shoulders and squeezed gently. "Come on Xander, think of it, fresh doughnuts, every day for a week."
