Sex Cultures: 6th Period

Grissom enters the classroom a few minute after the bell rings, holding an overnight bag and wearing a forensics jacket from DC, and quickly puts his things behind his desk and pulls some paperwork out of a drawer.

"Welcome, everyone. I apologize for my absence on Tuesday, and thank you, Ms. Cally, for filling in on such short notice. My notes say that you were all assigned a short essay. Considering the subject matter, I'd actually like you to read those essays aloud to the rest of the class.

Feel free to ask your fellow students questions about their presentations, but remember that we all come from different backgrounds and we are here to learn, not judge.

Your homework for Tuesday is to brush up on the marriage laws of the state of Virginia. Guess what unit we'll be discussing next week?

Also, Bel and Cally, I'll assume you had no problems with any of the students in my absence. If any of them caused you problems, stop by my office after class, and those students will be spending their Saturday with me. Thank you."

Phoebe signs in, looking very subdued and not all like herself. She takes a seat in the back.

Bel signs in and gives his presentation.

"The Siren was once a beautiful mortal woman, but she was burned alive for adultery after she had an affair with a married man. The man remained unpunished and blameless. The woman's rage was so strong that she became the Siren, a demon that seduces married men with her song. She lures the wives so that they can see see the betrayal of their husbands, then kills the men with a fiery kiss and murders the wives as well. Despite her nature, there are many men and demons who believe they are strong enough to withstand the deadly kiss of the Siren. Her beauty captivates them, but ultimately leads to their deaths."

"Marilyn Monroe. Who is she, you might ask. She was the biggest sex symbol of American history, she married a playwright and flirted with John F. Kennedy. She was an absolute bombshell, perfect legs, blonde hair, perfect lips, hands..everything. Men wanted to, erm, bang her and women wanted to be her. Marilyn was the first woman on front of the very first copy of 'Playboy', which makes her a pretty damn good sex symbol."

Sawyer was pleased with his subject material. Oh yes.

Alanna signed in and delivered a speech on the Great Mother Goddess. She looked rather uncomftorable the entire time and was constantly fiddling with something at her neck. Her bag seemed to be moving on its own.

Anders goes bug-eyed for a few moments, not having realized he was going to have to read this in front of the class. Suddenly he's really, really glad he didn't opt to write about his first choice of subject.

He clears his throat and starts reading off his paper (with the corners lopped off, of course). All things considered, it's completely predictable of Anders to have chosen this subject. But the poor boy is blissfully unaware of how narcissistic he might come across because of it -- because that would be assuming he knew what "narcissistic" means, for one thing.

“Professional athletes are sex symbols where I come from, which also seems to be the case here. That's not really surprising, since they're supposed to be in top physical condition, and since they're pros they're in the public eye a lot. It's pretty much a foolproof combination of being in good shape, capable of a lot physically, successful, and probably rich. So it kind of follows that people would think at least some of them are attractive, especially when they show up in television game recaps every night, and in the papers and magazines, all the time. And since most of our pro sports back in the Colonies have mixed teams of men and women, that sex symbol thing actually goes both ways.”

Cally restrains the urge to facepalm and tries her best to look happy and supportive of Anders.

Cally signs in and doesn't have a presentation to give.

She kinda didn't do the assignment cause she had given it. Oops.

Pip gets up and gives a presentation on the French appreciation for a woman's bust. ~~Look, he mentions it canon, alright?~~.

Allie signs in and gives a speech about Brad Pitt.

Shep sneaks in late and sits in the back.

When it's his turn, he gives an off the cuff, but pretty decent presentation on the idea of Cheerleaders - specifically the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders - as sex symbols.

Izzie signed herself in.
She then proceeded to read her short essay on the perceived sexiness of doctors. She referenced many popular television shows past and present to make her point.

{OOC: I'm sorry I didn't get this up yesterday. I had some server problems, and it was just evil and frustrating.}

For passing notes, talking during class, and all sorts of other behaviors Grissom will probably ignore.

Phoebe turns pale when she hears the assignment for next week. Oh today was just getting better and better.

Grissom retreats to his office, and is happy to find food in the kitchen. He makes himself a bowl of soup and sits at his desk to eat.
