"I checked back home and found out that a couple of vampires were captured by the Brotherhood. They were tortured and killed just because they were vampires. Happens a lot where I come from," Bel said.

"Well, in my least favorite country ever, faith hate crimes (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4661650.stm) have been down since the bombing tragedy all those months ago. Sometimes, I suppose, destructive violence due to hate is put on hold when severe tragedy hits....or when there are more people in authority watching for such things."

"Hate crimes can happen anywhere, sadly. College campuses are no exception," Piper said. "If they can happen at places like Columbia and Harvard, they could happen here as well. That's a scary thing to think about."

"In Russia, there's been an increase in hate crimes (http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=6832301a-75a4-4bc1-9b32-2613386528a4&k=79018) against visible minorities and Jews. It's been suggested that it's 'growing pains' of a sort, as Russia moves past the Soviet era."
