Lunch: 1/30/06

The happy humming from the kitchen today might be interspersed with occasional worrisome chuckles. Today's menu is written in neat block letters:

- Fettucine Alfredo (with chicken and/or broccoli)

- Steamed Carrots

- Roast Beast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding

- Pad Thai

- Minestrone

Dessert:
- Lemon Sherbet

- Snow Cones

John pauses from eating his minestrone when he hears the tone of voice change.

"Oh. Yeah?" His eyes begin scanning for the nearest exit. Maybe she'll believe there's a snow monster behind her. "Thanks?"

Oh, what a stupid thing to say.

"I'm thinking next week, I'll go for three guys in one night, spice things up a bit. You free?"

John chokes on his soup.

"Oh, uh, that." He blinks a few times. "I suppose saying I was just kidding around to get a few laughs wouldn't work, huh?"

She raises an eyebrow. "Not really. However, a promise that you'll never say anything like that again would go a long way to me not asking one of the two guys in question to talk to you."

"Right." John coughs and clears his throat. "I promise. I'll break the Magic 8 Ball as soon as I get back to my room and I'll be more careful."

"Thank you, I appreciate that," she says, smiling again. "I don't understand how the pirate gets so much misinformation," she adds, shaking her head.

"No problem," John says, smiling carefully. "And I have no idea. But the notes are extensive and he seems to have access to places I didn't even know existed. Maybe he can see the future or something and knows things will be happening?"

"Hmm, so what exactly did those notes say then?" she asks. "Because it was true that Logan and Weevil both stayed in the east attic that night. But they were in the common area, on the couches and I was in my room with the door closed, as were my other two roommates."

And she's going to ignore that bit about what might happen in the future because she'll be in her bunk it's just wrong to think about.

John, being a newbie to the radio, is unsure of this question. "Um, I think the content might be a secret. I don't want an angry pirate after me."

"You don't want an angry blonde after you either," she points out. "But I'll let it slide this time. You do realize that all that stuff the radio's said about me isn't true, right?"

"I just thought you were really popular and didn't think about it anymore," John admits. "Though, how you're friends with Crazy Jaye is beyond me."

"She's never called me a slut on the radio," Veronica says simply.

"But she called me a monkey!" John shakes his head. "And yeah, I can see that though. I don't think that. Words come out of my mouth without me thinking sometimes."

"Well I'm glad you don't really think that about me," she says, smiling genuinely this time. "I've got a few things to take care of before my next class, so I'll talk to you later. Take it easy."

"No hard feelings," she says, getting up, grabbing her bag and picking up her tray.
