Office hours

She's hanging out in her office, staring out the window. This much snow makes her homesick...for DC. If she had better gloves, she'd go out and throw snowballs at Josh's office window, but she doesn't, so she doesn't. Earbuds in, she is NOT listening to something other than punk. Certainly not The Carpenters, which she doesn't sing along with either.

He hugs her tight. "I know. I mean, I understand. I'm just glad to see you."

He steps back and hops up to sit crosslegged on her desk. "So what's this about making your students sing? My friend Isabel was freaking out last night. And can I just say, while the shock collars weren't my favorite thing, I kind of appreciate not having to make up and sing songs in class last semester ~~even if I have a fantastic voice~~."

"I'm actually surprised any of them sang. All they had to do was write a song that could be set to music. Something in protest...something rebellious. Belthazor exercized his power by not participating. You know that impressed me." She smiles and sits in her chair again, kicking her bare feet up next to him. "I don't know why Isabel would freak out...she did just fine. Alienation is a great topic."

"And one a lot of people here have a certain affinity for," Jack said, nodding. "I may have given away one of your secrets. I told her she would probably get credit for having guts -- and that last semester one of the points was to disobey." Jack grins and shrugs.

"Oh, Jack!" she furrows her brows and leans forward, smacking his knee. "Don't go ruining my fun! Make people learn the hard way like you had to." sh sits back with a smile, and winks at him. "Is she really ok? Did that little bit of information calm her down?"

Jack rubs his knee. "Oh, she's fine. She's still sort of settling in. Besides, she was one of the group that got attacked the other night." Jack's attention gets distracted. "Which reminds me, must make note to check in on Vala. When her overprotective boyfriend isn't there." He pulls his attention back. "But Isabel, she's still finding her place here."

"I heard the radio. Was that the same on who tried to get you?" Her smile fades, suddenly a mask of concern and a hard glint in her eyes.

Jack nods. "The blonde one. Yeah. I've already promised Parker that I'm not going to let myself get grabbed and sucked, by the way. Same promise to you. And the story is, she's bestest buds with... wait for it... our favorite Crazy Squid Lady. So, you know, two people I avoid like the plague."

"DRUSILLA?!?!?" She shoots forward and puts her hands on his knees. "She's still around?"

Jack nods. "Apparently snuck up on a friend of mine in town and freaked him out the other day. Didn't whammy him but scared him -- at least, according to Parker. So yeah, she's still around. You know, I think locking myself in my dorm room is an idea with a great deal of merit."

"You could always come home, you know. You're always welcome...and the TARDIS is safe."

Jack smiles at her. "I like living in the dorms. But I want to come home on the weekends."

"I'd really like that, Chip. I miss you, you know?"

"I know," Jack says quietly. "After all the craziness... yeah, I know."

"Yeah. You know, not to guilt you or anything, but you're the one I've got left. With Shane and the boys gone, either I need some more kids or you are going to get so very sick of me."

Jack leans forward and kisses her on the cheek. "So never going to happen. My birthday's in a couple of weeks, by the way," he adds with a great deal of subtlety.

"I know. What's your heart's desire, sweet boy?"

Jack thinks about it. "I want a party. Kind of like the one you threw for your birthday. Only with less history stuff."

"In town or at the school? And less history means less money...but you have to wear clothes."

"Well, it is going to be February. I still say showing up naked was perfectly historical. And in town, I think... means everyone who wants to can come."

"Like I could deny you anything, hon. A party you want? A party you'll get. One to cover every year I missed...plus this one."

Jack shakes his head. "You didn't miss anything. You didn't know me. I didn't know you. But I definitely want a party."

"Kid, when I plan a party, I do it right. I just need to find the space to hold eighteen parties at once..." she pulls out her ubiquitous tablet and begins to make notes.

Jack's eyes bug out ~~like they've been doing most of this week~~ and he begins to wonder if turning his mom loose was the smartest thing in the world. "Um..." And then he thinks about it. There is a *reason* he loves his mom. The have incredibly similar tastes in hedonism. "Well, there's Caritas, and the Fourth Sin. I've heard Spike's Pub is closed, but I bet Uncle Geoff would let us use Chaucer's..."

She looks up at him in disbelief. "All those places are far too small. I was thinking like the hotel grand ballroom. Cram everyone in one room, stuff them full of cake and ice cream and turn them loose on helpless papier mache stuffed full of really good prizes. Leave it to me, babe. This will cover every minute before I had you in my life."

Words appear on the tablet like 'rooms', 'pool', 'booze', cost?', and crowley.

(([makes a mental note to have his kids learn protest songs]))
