History of Art / Studio Art Combined Studio | Jan 27, Periods 5&6

As the students came into class, they would be able to see large photographic prints of Greek Statuary, as well several draperies and what looked suspiciously like white body paint. There are also a number of sketchpads and cameras.

"Okay kids, I want the History of Art students to split up into three groups of three and one of four.

"Once you're in your group, I want you to pick a statue and recreate it as accurately as possible, using the paint, the drapes and one of your group. Although please keep your clothes on. This is, after all, a school.

"Meanwhile, I want the studio art students to each take a camera and a sketchbook, and draw and photograph the History of Art students while they work. Try and work on cropping, balance and placement when taking photos. And it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. Keep it clean."

"Jessica Tate. Nice to meet you dear. Oh! I just love your hair" Jessica says with a smile and takes a seat.

"Thanks," Isabel said, pushing her hair back and out of her face. "So what do you think we should work on?"

"Hmmm..." Jessica's eyes narrow as she studies the prints. "Well, Hestia is quite peaceful looking...I wouldn't mind modeling her...And although I'm obviously not a man...a could do that Achilles wounded pose...you see once I was exiting Bloomingdales in these new high heels I bought on sale and as I was stepping down from the curb the heel on my right shoe broke, and I fell, and I layed there by the curb in almost that exact pose crying. Not because I was hurt of course but because my brand new shoes were ruined. So, you see, I can do that pose..."

Isabel laughed. "If you're willing to model, then I think it's only right that it's your choice of pose. So would you prefer calm and peaceful or bad memories of tragic shoe loss?" She thought of all the clothes she'd had damaged on their various alien adventures. While she'd never cried, she'd certainly cursed a lot. Fortunately her alien skills were able to fix all but the most damaged stuff.

Thinking of those shoes reminded her of a blouse she had also bought that day. It, too, was ruined when her possessed grandson tossed her about the nursery when she was helping Father Tim with the exorsism...Jessica sighs. Oh well...

"I think we should go for calm and peaceful. Hestia is is" she says with a smile. "So...it looks like we'll need the paint, some drapery, two things for me to hold, and I should put my hair up." Jessica goes to her purse and gets hair pins and goes about doing her hair.

"You fix your hair and I'll get the drapes and the paint. Hopefully we won't have to use too much."

"Okay" says Jessica with a smile. She walks up to a window to use it as a mirror as she goes about putting a pin here and there. Occasionally she looks beyond her reflection and stares in awe at the snow. How peaceful...

Isabel watched Jessica fix her hair, and then looked out the window. "That is a lot of snow. I think once I get back to the dorms tonight, I'm staying in."

Spying a small platform she brought is over. "Do you want to pose on this?"

"Wonderful! That will work well dear" says Jessica with a smile. Hair finished, she looks out the window then turns to Isabel. "Oh, I don't think the snow will keep me from going out. The snow doesn't bother me a bit...but I underdstand. I'm affraid of the ocean..." says Jessica very matter-of-factly.

While they were getting ready, Chiana headed over. "Hey, mind if I join you guys?"

Jessica turns to Chiana. "Join us where? In the ocean?" Jessica looks confused. "No, dear, you see I've already said that I am affraid of it...so I'm not going there for you to join me there...but you can go dear." Jessica nods and smiles. "You should take another coat though dear, its freezing outside."

And there's the blinking again. "What does an ocean have to do with anything?"

"I don't know dear." Jessica shrugs, smile still in place. "So, how have you been? Oh! I am going to be a peaceful looking statue! Isn't that exciting??"

"Err... yes. Thrilling, even."

"I thought you would think so" says Jessica with a big smile. She takes the drapery, looks at the image of the sculpture on the print, and tries out wrapping it around herself in different ways.

Isabel raised her eyebrow at Chiana and then started to help Jessica adjust the drape.
