Classics 1/25, Period 3

"Hello.

Today is the first of your four quizzes in this class, reviewing the work we have done so far. When you have completed the quiz, you may study or watch some filmed adaptations of Greek myths to prepare you for class next week.

I am in my office after class, should you have questions."

[OOC: Quiz is 15 multiple-choice questions and two short essays. Post that you took it and what grade you think you got.]

Anders is still a little sketchy on some of the details of The Odyssey, so he flubs one of the short essays kind of badly. He sits and deliberates all the rest of the period on the multiple choice questions, though, and only misses three.

Connor signs in.

Connor aces the quiz. He might have a couple of iffy spots in the essay qiestion, but he's really really good at fudging.

Murphy signs in.

He gets all the mutiple-choice correct, but fumbles a bit on the essays - he's not quite as good at fudging as Connor, sadly.

(A-/B+, somewhere in that range)

John signs in. He's had a bad day, and it's not getting any better.

Janet came in to show Professor Dream her excuse note for classes for the rest of the week. "Is there anything I need to make up?" she asked. She was moving a little stiffly and was wearing long sleeves.

"Only the quiz, and you can take that home to hand in during the next class," Dream says. "Do you think you'll be back in classes on Monday?"

"I'll be fine by Monday, Professor," said Janet. "Thanks. I don't have a problem with bringing the quiz in then."

"Then I will see you then. Be well, Ms. Frasier."

"Thanks," says Janet, nodding as she leaves.

After Speech, Elizabeth headed to see Dream.

"Professor, I'm sorry for missing class yesterday," she said, looking apologetic. "I, um, don't actually know what happened to me, but it resulted in me losing the last four days..."

Dream inspects Elizabeth for a moment, seeing no deception in her tone or manner.

"I think I can mark that as an excused absence, Miss Weir. There was a quiz (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/550017.html) on the French unit -- could you take that now, or take it home and bring it in for tomorrow's class? We also need to schedule your regular sessions for independent study."

Elizabeth smiles slightly. "Thank you, Professor. I'll take the quiz now, if that's okay? Nothing like getting it over and done with."

She nods. "Yes, sir. Is this time each week suitable?"

"Now is fine," Dream concurs, handing Elizabeth the quiz. "And this time works for your Independent Study. Come to my desk when you have finished the quiz and we'll discuss your progress in Italian."

Elizabeth nods, and takes the quiz to the closest desk. She quickly completes it (with the essay questions in French, because she is a geek) and hands back the A-grade test.

Dream's eyes flick over Elizabeth's quiz before he files it. "Excellent work, Ms. Weir. Now, how are you finding the Italian?"

She half smiles. "Thank you."

"It's not been too bad. I think my Latin's helped; a lot of the Italian vocabulary and pronounciation seem to resemble it."

"That will often be the case," Dream says, then points out specific examples in the chapters ELizabeth was assigned.

When he is done explaining, he passes the book back to her. "Could you read the next three chapters and write a short dialogue of introductions before we meet next Wednesday?"

Elizabeth listens intently, nodding and occassionally asking a question.

She nods. "Yes, Professor," she says, glancing down at the book. "Oh. Also, what do I need to read for class tomorrow?"

"Nothing. Thursday is to be a lecture class introducing Norse myths. You chose your absence well, Miss Weir."

Elizabeth grins slightly. "Apparently so. Thank you, Professor; I'll see you tomorrow."

"Until tomorrow, Miss Weir."

"Professor Dream?" Parker stood outside his door after class,looking both annoyed and slightly chagrined. "I need to talk to you."

"Ms. Parker? Of course, come in. How is your Russian progressing?"

"That's actually what I'm here about. It's been two weeks now, and Sydney Bristow and I haven't managed to coordinate our schedules. If it's allright, I'd like to get the assignments directly from you, rather than try to go through a third party." She shook her head, and cocked an eyebrow at him.

"I'm sorry to hear that, and a little surprised," Dream says. "I will speak to Ms. Bristow to see if I can get your schedules on track. In the meantime --" Dream rises and walks to his bookshelves, finally pulling out a basic-level Russian workbook. "It is always well to begin with the alphabet (http://www.masterrussian.com/blalphabet.shtml). Learn these letters, their shapes and sounds, practice drawing them, and ... when would be a good time for you to come back?"

"Next Wednesday would be fine, I don't have any classes then," Parker said, taking the workbook. "And thank you for this. I don't know what's up with Bristow, I just need to get started on this, or I'll never learn anything by the end of the semester."

"Let us say fourth period Wednesday?" Dream offers. "And I understand that you cannot wait all semester without learning anything. I regret that you have wasted most of a month."

Parker shrugged. "Fourth period's fine. And I'm sorry it didn't work out. Thanks, sir."

"You are welcome. I shall see you next week, Ms Parker."
