Sex Cultures: 6th Period

As soon as all the students have entered the classroom, Grissom shuts the door and stands in front of the class with his arms crossed, smirking.

"To those of you from Earth, you'll be very excited to know that today is Kama Sutra day. For those of you not from Earth, you'll be very excited to know that today is Kama Sutra day."

"And no, we will not be using the projector in this class.

The Kama Sutra is perhaps the world's most famous how-to guide..."

Grissom then continues his lecture (w/1 honestly semi-confusing dirty picture) on the history of the Kama Sutra, complete with a few unfortunate puns.

"As you can see, although the manual on sexual positions is most famous part of the document, it is only one section out of seven."

"Therefore," he says as he hands each students a thick, photo-copied packet, "You're going to read the rest. The Kama Sutra's most famous English translation, all of it except Part Two, which is mysteriously absent from your reading."

"I know," he deadpans. "Bummer."

Discussion: I want you to flip through now, and find something that surprises you in the document. You'll have five minutes, and then the rest of the class will be spent on discussion.

Your assignment is to read the rest. And no, that doesn't include using campus resources to find Part Two. Just ask Cally, she has a copy. I think it's illustrated. I don't need angry mailbombs letters from your parents, thank you."

[OOC: I know I allow class bum-rushing, but remember today you have to knock to get in, and I reserve the right to mock you, and kick you out if you're being too naughty. Grissom is a little twisted, but he's also annoyingly responsible.]

Anders looks up at that comment. "That's kind of weird. If girls go after rich guys, don't they usually get mocked for that? But in this culture, if it's the other way around, it doesn't seem to be a bad thing."

"I'm just hung up on the whole 'it's okay to be a prostitute thing.' I've met people from a lot of cultures, and 98% of them frown on prostitution. Most of the ones that don't aren't from ... you know... around here... Earth..."

He thinks about the way Anders interpreted the line. "Oh, you see it as like a Sugar-mama thing. I read it as straight prositution. A guy can let a girl pay him for sex. Dr. Grissom... which is it?"

While waiting for Dr. Grissom to respond, Anders taps a finger against his chin and scribbles absentmindedly in the margin of his notebook. "Oh, good point, dude, I didn't think of it that way. And yeah, where I come from they're not all that keen on prostitution either. Maybe we don't come down on it as hard as the Earth cultures I've learned about so far do, but it's not exactly a good thing either."
