The Tick was sitting at his desk looking slightly tired. Lockheed wasn't in class today. It was probably going to be an easy discussion.

"Hello, class! Lockheed is not with us today. He had something else to take care of. Today, we're taking a slight detour in our discussion. Today, we're talking about your experiences."

"I know that we have a lot of people from different cultures here, so I thought it would be keen to talk a little about Justice in your original environment! Please share some information with the class about a Justice organization from your home. It can be a superhero team, the military police, your local sheriff's department, or even the occasional lone individual who tries to write the wrongs in the world. As long as they are for justice and, I suppose, according to my earlier statement, are organized, share that bit of you with us!"

"Your metaphor of the week is the shift key on a keyboard."

"For extra credit that is actually related to the lecture for once, please name your favorite Defender of Justice from your home!"

Rory froze.

"Um. Sure, sir?"

Tick flipped through the homework, pulled out Anakin's paper, and slid it across the desk for Rory to look at.

"Checkmarks tend to be a little more professional than hearts," Tick said awkwardly.

Rory blushed so hard she was pretty sure she was going to fall over dead due to the rush of blood to her head.

That would probably be a kinder fate, in any case.

"Um. I like hearts?"

"Err, what about what's written in the hearts?" Tick asked.

"Um."

Rory looked at her feet. "I, um, actually didn't think anyone aside from Anakin would see."

"I hate to ask this," Tick said, clearly uncomfortable, "but are you in a relationship with him, or are you just being kinda creepy via grading?"

Rory looked up from the floor, eyes wide.

"Um. Sir...we're...."

She sighed.

"You can't tell anyone. Er. Please don't, I mean. Jedi aren't allowed. He could get in enormous trouble."

The Tick stared at her for a moment. "Why in the world would I tell anyone? What opportunity would I have to tell anyone, even?"

"I'm just concerned about your ability to grade his work in an unbiased manner."

"Oh, you don't need to worry about that, sir," Rory said with a relieved smile. "You can compare his work to anyone else's in class. Even to Logan's, who I could also be perceived as having a bias against. I approached all of them the same way. Grading fairly is something I feel very strongly about."

"Okay. I will keep an eye on the grading, though, just to be sure," Tick said. "Love is powerful, after all. Sometimes even more powerful than reason or common sense."

"Speaking of which, it's really best not to doodle hearts and stuff where others can see it if you're trying to be secretive."

"Love? What love? We're just dating. Secretly. Secret dating. No love. Affection, sure. But no love," Rory said, slightly panicked. Eep. She cleared her throat.

"And, um, I didn't think anyone'd see it but him," she repeated, shuffling her feet. "I'll certainly be more careful, sir."

"Well, whatever degree of affection," Tick said, oblivious to any panic. "Just be mindful of your emotions." Tick grinned. "I heard that in a Jedi thingy Anakin gave me for Christmas. I thought it would work well in this situation!"

"Okay, Rory, you're free to go. Have a good day!"
