Magical Theory (Monday, 01/23/2006, 5th Period)

Okay, guys, we're going to talk about telling the future on Thursday. But today, why don't you all hop online and get your fortunes told?

Check out this free tarot reading site. Pick a question, and get yourself a reading using the Celtic Cross spread. Then let me know two things: First, what your question was, and second, what your impression of the reading's results were. Also? Lemme know what you think of tarot, if you know anything about it.

Bel grinned slyly. "I asked if I was going to see a friend again, and I think it said yes. I got the Emperor as my final card, and that's the outcome, right? 'Worldly authority and power.' A patriarch or primary male influence!"

He chuckled a little. "Tarot's kinda cool, but you gotta have some sort of ability in the first place. It's just a tool to focus your power. Not anybody can pick up a deck and use it."

"Just like you just said, you can interpret the cards a lot of different ways," Bel said. "They got good readings because they wanted to see good readings, not because of magical ability."

Sakura grins at the site -- she'd always thought tarot was an interesting practice. She has to sit and think about a question for a bit, though. She then asks the tarot if her own cards are of any relation to tarot, and peruses the results with interest. It wasn't quite something expected to be asked in a tarot reading, she supposed, but hey. It was a question.

"I asked about the magical cards I manipulate," Sakura told Jenny. "And really, I think the reading it gave was very helpful. I imagine that's not a common... sort of question to be asked." She turned back to the site, rereading her results.

Kiki blushes a little as she admits, "I asked about love. And... I found the results quite accurate - that I was searching for balance in a turmoiled situation. It told me repeatedly that my situation in love was 'chaotic,' which is about as correct as it can be.

I do not read the tarot myself, but I know other witches who are excellent at fortune telling and divination. I don't think the tarot so much as reads or predicts the future, but I think it does inspire the querant to introspectively look at their situation in a new way."

[ooc: Could be mun's own interest in tarot/interpretation/spin, but reading was accurate liek WHOA. Even hinting at what I have in the works for Kiki coming up!]

[ooc - so was Xander's, when I asked it the question that in no way would Xander admit to asking it. 'Cept now I have to find something that he actually would admit to asking. *grin*]

[Hahah, me too - there's plenty of things Kiki would ask about, just not in a situation where she knows she'd have to announce the results to the whole class.]

"I think so, yes," Kiki answers. "The future is... ineffable. And it is always in flux. Even the most accomplished diviners can only give an impression of what is most likely to happen, not most definitely what will, because people are so variable and change their minds so much. But by reading the tarot, it can help people evaluate their lives and their thoughts by relating their situations to what comes out in the cards. The cards are open to intepretation, after all."

"That was actually kind of intense for me," Cordelia said, looking a little pale and shocked. "I asked if it would be possible to...ever make a difference. Um, it's a little personal, but that's the gist of it. And the answer at first was big resounding no, but if I really stuck to it and sacrificed some things, yeah, it's possible."

She paused for a minute, looking at her hands. "If I interpreted it correctly. I don't know that much about tarot, but from what I've seen, it tends to be pretty accurate, if performed correctly. I'm not sure about online tarot, because I was under the impression that touch had a lot to do with the reading, though."

Cordy listens to Jenny intently, finding herself intrigued by the subject.

"That's really interesting. Thanks."

"I asked it about love and since I honestly did not understand what the cards were saying because of the conflicting images it gave me, I am guessing the question I asked will not come to pass." Maia shrugged "To be honest there is not really anything I could ask the cards without already knowing the answer to I suppose but the conflicting cards intrigued me."

((OOC: I am like whoa on the cards because damn like two or three of them were right on and the other ones were thought provoking.))

She studied her teacher carefully, she got the impression that Ms. Calendar didn't like her very much. Swallowing hard she finally said "In my own life I know it does; unless the person who is going to do an action to me is uncertain about if they want to do it or not."

"I asked if my destiny is to help protect innocents," Piper said quietly. "It told me I'd have to deal with sudden changes and disruptions and that I'd have to make sacrifices. That seems kind of accurate to me."

Krycek pursed his lips, somewhat amused. "I asked if I'd pass this semester and it told me I was easily distracted and that it'd take hard work. At least, that's what it seemed like it meant - I admit that I haven't really looked much into tarot."

Paige looks slightly awkward, "I asked if I'd found true love," she says blushing a little, the answers it gave me were pretty interesting and accurate, for the part about my goal it came with something about fire, which given my boyfriend's temperament fits pretty well, it mentioned fury and passion which can be easily ignited, which...well yeah. It also said the foundation was based on hard work, which I think is true, since well we've not had the easiest time and we do have to work at the relationship. The card about my role in this situation was spot on, there was stuff about me being creative and daring, again this was a fire card which I think explains a lot about my are relationship and the final outcome was about youth and opening my heart to simple pleasures."

She thinks about what her take on tarots, "I guess tarot reading are totally open to interpretation, like I think it's really accurate I guess cos I want it to be, some of the cards seems to be in the wrong place to me, like the card about thing in my future were about a Patriarch or primary male influence, which kinda makes me think about my ex. I wouldn't base my life on the outcome of them or necessarily believe it was an indication of the future, but going on this there did seem to be some thing in it."

((this was quite spooky for Paige and Sawyer's relationship))

Xander frowned. "I played around with it a bunch - mostly asking what the hell it though I was supposed to be doing with my life -- and seemed to get a lot of repeats on my problem being not wanting to let go of things, or being afraid of change. Who, me?"

"I asked about true love," Logan said. "That's what fortune telling's for, right? Love and money? It said I'd end up with strife and an endless struggle. Sounds like a pretty accurate description of love to me."
