Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

Grissom is standing at the front of the class, feeding a few tarantulas who are perched on his desk in their terrariums. They've been officially banned from his apartment and office, and will now live in the lab. Poor ~~T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chili~~ spiders.

"Welcome, everyone. After doing all that reading this weekend, you should be familiar now with the material.

So, instead of lecturing you, today we will participate in a project.

Using the full resources of the Humanities wing (the AV/computer lab, Grissom's creepy stuff, the science materials, etc.), I'd like you to design some sort of Anti-Violence message for the campus.

You will not be graded on this, so feel free to be experimental. At the end of class, share ~~describe, link, whatever~~ what you have done with the class.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Please turn in your homework."

Grissom then lectures on the Sokal Affair as his students probably nod off, and lets them go without assigning any homework.

"It can wait until later," he hedges. They probably could use a feeding, but he doesn't want to upset her.

"How do you do it?" Her eyes are steady and she won't show any disgust.

"Why don't I take them out of the cages and hold them, and then you can just shake the food in out of the bags?"

"That works--no dropping them down the back of my shirt."

"I would never do something like that," he says, his face twisted in a grin. He takes the top off the first cage and gently eases the spider out onto his open palm.

"At least, I haven't done anything like that since the fourth grade.

Okay, the ninth.

Okay, 1996."

"You have no idea what I'd do to you if you did." Frankly, she doesn't know either. Only that she would make it hurt. A lot.

Opening the bag, she quickly shakes the contents in.

He eases the spider back down, a soft smile on his face.

"See, that wasn't so bad. Maybe we can co-habitate with pets after all," he says with a hopeful tone to his voice.

"Make sure the lids on their habitats stay on and they can come back to the apartment." Once the spider is down, she kisses his cheek.

"I will," he promises.

"Can I see your bite?"

He leans over and kisses it gently, keeping his lips in an O to actually surround the bite, and making sure not to scrape it with his beard.

"The tea leaves won't help anymore, I'm afraid. But we can put some cool compresses on it. That should help."

"We can do that tonight," she says with a nod.

"We should probably feed the other two."

"You don't have to do this, you know," he says, easing the top off the next terrarium, knowing she's going to insist they feed all the spiders. He scoops the spider out and steps back.

"No, but if I interact with them more, theoretically I won't want to squash them." She shakes the food into the container.

He puts the spider down, careful to replace the top, and then repeats the process for feeding the third spider.

"They're pretty quick. I raise my bugs to be fast," he laughs.

"Are you doing the roach races this year?"

"The World Championship in Australia is actually this weekend. I had considered going in the fall; I qualified last August. But with my current situation taken into account...

Maybe next year," he shrugs.

She gives him a hug, laying her head on his shoulder.

"Next year."

"They have beer and water guns," he says quietly, "And team t-shirts. We could make our own. Although, maybe not as vulgar with our content as some of the other teams."

"Bugs and Beauty Inc?" she suggests, smiling slightly.

"I'm the Beauty part, I'm going to assume," he chuckles a bit.

"I'm a bug?"

"You tone suggests that you are not taking that as the compliment I obviously intended it to be.

I really love bugs."

"I guess I can handle being your bug."

He snorts a little. "Are you sure about the spiders? You already live with cockroaches, ants, beetles... I can compromise too. They can stay in the lab, if you want."
