After leaving her classes, Jaye heads to the gym to start setting things up. To say she's disgruntled would be putting it mildly. She's practically datgruntled, too.

Lucky for her, Muppet chickens are easily bribeable, and they help shove tables into place and stick up signs for each one.

There are tables set up throughout the gym, each with a sign taped to the front with the name of the club. Student sponsors should probably be behind it if they want to sell their club. On each table is a clipboard to use when you sign up, but otherwise, you have all that space to put stuff on display or whatever.

Jaye sends the chickens to do their thing (and it's not her fault if a couple stick around to watch the show) takes a seat behind the table nearest to the door to do her thing. If you're rude, you might get thwapped with a clipboard.

All new clubs have a thread. Drop off a registration form with Jaye, and then go find your table and sell it.

All students have to either have a job or sign up for a club. Therefore, go find something. IF YOU DON'T SIGN UP, YOU ARE NOT CONSIDERED A MEMBER. So do so.]

Anakin sat down at the Deep Thoughts Club table, close enough to Into the Black that he could keep an eye on both, and amused himself by playing with the Deep Thoughts Club mascot--an Edgar Allen Poe action figure.

As you might expect from a guy sitting at the Deep Thoughts Club table, he's not exactly perky.

He does have a giant bowl of Twinkies, though, if anyone's hungry.

"Who's your friend?" Rory asked, pointing to the Poe figure before quickly signing her name.

"Hey, you," Anakin said with a smile. "This is Poe. A poet from your world, apparently. Very deep. Kind of depressing. Someone thought he was a good mascot for the club."

"Oh, duh, I should've recognized him," Rory grinned. "We had a whole convention of Poes come to my mom's inn awhile back. Like, re-enactors. People who dressed up like him. They were a bit weird. Have you read any of his work?"

Anakin blinked. "Okay..." His forehead wrinkled. "Sometimes this planet of yours is just so strange I can hardly believe it."

He stopped making action-figure Poe do high kicks. "I haven't read any of his writings, no. Do you have any recommendations?"

Rory refrained from saying anything in retaliation about Anakin's hair. Because she really did like it, and she didn't want him to think otherwise. Even if it was weird.

"Um, I have a few collections of his stuff. His most famous poem is 'The Raven,' though I personally like his short stories better. They're really interesting from a psychological perspective. I could loan what I have to you, if you want."

"I'd appreciate it," Anakin said with a smile. "Obi-Wan would be happy to hear me exploring more, culturally. He has this thing about learning about literature and music on various worlds."

"Well, if you ever want to know more about literature..." Rory shrugged and gave a little wave. "Big ol' bookworm over here. So yeah, I can loan you Poe's stuff and about a zillion other books. Which you actually probably already knew."

Dear Brain: WHY AM I STILL TALKING? No love, Rory, she thought.

"Wasn't sure if you liked to lend out books," Anakin said. "I know that Master Windu is awfully protective of the stash of holos in his room..." he trailed off. "Um, so, yeah, I'd love to borrow some of your Poe."

"I don't lend out books to just anyone, no. Just responsible people," Rory smiled. "So yeah, you're welcome to borrow anything anytime."

"I'll have to stop by this weekend, then, to borrow some," he said.

Yeah, he thought he was being smooth.

Rory nodded, her cheeks tingeing red.

"Yes, definitely. We could have a book discussion," she said seriously. "And it's really bad if people interrupt those. Throws off the whole concentration and all."

"That would be terrible," Anakin said, nodding. "Saturday night? Maybe grab something to eat beforehand? My mind tends to wander if I haven't eaten before I begin to study."

"We could even order in," Rory suggested. "I tend to be very lazy when I'm studying. Part of the focus." She nodded.

"Ooh," Anakin said, smiling. "I like that idea even better."

Rory nodded. "I'm an old pro at this. And then if the studying gets to be too much, my laptop is also a DVD player. I believe that would fulfill my end of a certain bargain we made recently?"

Anakin's eyes twinkled. "I believe it would."

Rory gave a swift nod.

"Sounds like a plan. A good, solid, study-rich plan."

"See you then?" Anakin replied. "If not before, of course."

"Absolutely. I need to go check on my clubs, make sure I still have a yearbook staff, et cetera," Rory said.

Anakin made shooing motions. "Didn't mean to hold you up. I'll just sit here and hang out with Poe."
