Grissom is in his shared office with Lorelai - moping at the amount of sparkly, glittery things on the shelves considering some re-decoration, doing Sudoku puzzles contemplating complex mathematical theory, eating very unhealthy snacks eating healthy snacks, reading porn preparing for next week's classes, and reading his friendslist on livejournal doing some online research for an article he hopes to have published soon.

Come by and bug him, he's here all day.

During 4th period when Adam lets them out like he'll do really soon of the closet, CJ rushes past Gil's office toward the bathroom. Minutes later she comes back and without a word walks into the kitchenette and grabs coffee. She looks up at Gil with food disappearing into his mouth and stalks to his desk, totally stealing his food and eating like she's ravenous. With food in her mouth, she jerks her hand up in a wave. "Hey, Giw."

Gil gives her a look that's a strange blend of quizzical, amused, and very slightly concerned, but he just sits back in his chair as she steals his snacks.

"Hi, CJ. Skipped breakfast today, did we?"

Swallowing hard, she sounds supremely pissed. "Not exactly. Jack and I have been locked in room two's closet since fifth period yesterday."

She takes a long drink of coffee and then grabs the next edible thing she sees...and she doesn't even care if it has bugs in it.

Luckily, the chocolate covered grasshoppers are in the gross fridge that's on the floor, next to a big jar of rotting pig's blood.

But if CJ sees them, he certainly won't stop her. They're surprisingly delicious, according to him anyway.

However, his food may involve macrobiotic ingredients that taste like dirt.

"Oh my god. I was under the impression that the door couldn't lock behind you. How are you feeling?"

He goes to the icky fridge and grabs her a bottle of water, putting it down on the desk in front of her as she chews and giving her a 'you know why' look, before tossing another dirty look at her coffee to emphasize the point.

Swallowing hard she flashes a smile and uncapps the bottle.

"It locks behind you if your boyfriend locks you in. Geoff and Ten thought it was time for Jack and I to talk out our problems. Which would have been just peachy...if they hadn't left us there overnight."

She tips the bottle back, draining a quarter of it, then looks down at it. "How old is this?"

"It isn't that old," he says a little too firmly, before thinking, and then re-stating. "It isn't old. It has vitamins in it, or electrolytes, or Chinese herbs, or something that apparently has health benefits."

He shakes his head. "I'm pretty sure you won't mutate if you drink it."

"Certainly something must have come up for them to leave you in there, right?" He doesn't sound thoroughly convinced. "Have you been able to contact them?"

She looks at the label, then shrugs and drinks again. So science smells bad...and doesn't taste that great either. Oh well, she's thirsty.

"Not yet. Adam just let us out, and honestly? Biology first, you know?"

"It's actually a good sign you still had the urge to urinate." He's looking her over, up and down, although as if he was studying any inanimate object.

"Any dizziness, rapid heart rate, fatigue? With the elevated temperature of the confined space, your dehydration could be rather serious. One more day in those conditions, and you and Jack could have died."

He's such a comfort, that Gil Grissom.

"No, doctor. I'm pretty sure I'm just fine." she says flatly, smirking at him, but then softens. "Thanks for the concern, Gil. Really, we just talked and then fell asleep. Not like we were fighting for our lives inside a padded closet. It just..sucks...to be forgotten."

"That might not necessarily be what happened... there are any number of variables that could have resulted in your situation."

He looks around for any other food he might have in his office as he continues to speak.

"Was the experiment effective, at any rate?"

"If the expected outcome was for me and my son to make nice...yes. If it was to see how I'd react to being confined overnight? I think the jury's still out." While he's looking around, she snatches the half eaten...thing...he had been munching and stuffs it in her mouth.

He closes the screen of his laptop down and smiles.

"An old buddy from Berkley emailed me, mentioned a strange story. Seems one of the CSIs out in LA was permitted to work a case dealing directly with a former assailant of that CSI. Can you honestly think of a plausible line of reasoning to permit that?"

"Although I can't say for certain that there were not circumstances in this particular case in which the scenario was... acceptable, due to whatever reason - I find it highly unlikely. I don't know how any major lab could allow it."

"Thought so. The supervisor's inaction has probably cost them the case in question, since any defense attorney worthy of the degree can easily exploit the personal bias angle."

She perches on top of his desk. "How are you?"

"Unless the defendant wasn't going to stand trial," Grissom adds. "Although the supervisor probably couldn't have known that at the time, and even if he or she did, it's still a blatant disregard for protocol, for one thing."

"I'm doing well. Hungry, actually. There's no food left in my office."
