[OOC: Post is open until Monday 6pm EST for commenting.]

The table was spread out as usual, but this time there were donuts, danishes, cakes and other things with lots and lots of deliciously sugary baked goods.

"Afternoon dudes! Today's class is gonna be about the rest of Earth. It's only a quickie," he snickered. "About Earth. Next semester Music 101 is gonna be reworked to be about just Earth. But this is only meant to be something to, like, give us a base to work by so then next week we can start with all the weird stuff."

He wrote several things on the board.

Australia
South America
Africa
Asia
Europe
Middle East

"These are what the big book of stuff," he held up an encyclopedia. "Says are the major parts of the world. We're not gonna talk about Australia, because all they ever do is play didgeridoos or try to copy American music. We're not gonna talk about South America because I forgot to look it up. That leaves us with Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. They're the important parts anyway."

Africa: "Most music that you hear coming out of Africa has a lot of drums. It's like the Twelve Kobol-type Colonies that we're gonna learn about later in the year, except Africa is drier, has weirder animals and doesn't need any kind of filter to make it look orange like on screen." Ted was clearly delusional. "Many musical pieces from Africa are associated with Angelina Jolie. You may remember her from such films as all of the ones where she's wearing tight clothes and jumping around being a kick-ass action hero-babe. Africa, I'm told, also has this desert place called Egypt. The music from there uses a lot of cymbals and brass and violins and I didn't know Ancient Egyptians had violins or brass, but their music has it. It's meant to be powerful and make you scared of the Sphinx and any scary Pharaoh-god dudes who might hang around there. There's also the music of Morocco. They like to use piano music there and sing sad songs. They must all be sad in Morocco."

Asia: "Asia is way more calmer. This is because they use chopsticks and gongs for their music. My good friend, Genghis Khan, was from Mongolia and he totally liked gongs for their most excellent echoing effect. Then there is ninja music. Ninja music is Asian, but it is a special case all of its own. Its purpose is to give the ninjas some kind of cover so no one can hear them coming. It's kinda like the Mission Improbable theme, but cooler because it doesn't have anything to do with Tom Cruise. Ninjas totally kick ass, and so does their music. Some ninjas are triumphant enough to get their own song, like the wise sage 'Monkey'. His song is 'Monkey Magic' and if you don't know it, you totally should. It is a classic."

Europe: "Europe is full of hills and that kind of stuff, so they like to yodel and stand on hill tops and shout their music. Much of the hilltop yodelling music done in Europe, particularly the place that is home to cuckoo clocks, chocolate and snow cones, is performed by nuns. So, like, music must be religious to them or something. Europeans are one with the places where they live. They like to sing about how the hills are alive and how they sing songs that they've sung for a thousand years. I dunno about that, dudes, but whatever gets them through the day."

Middle East: "Last but not first, there's the Middle East. The Middle East has lots of countries with names I can't pronounce, and like many people your age I can't find it on a map, but that's totally okay because I know it's there. So's its music! While you may only think of religious chanting and weird pipe instruments being played, the Middle East actually has some totally happening music going on. Like, in this place I went to once, called Agrabah, they had genies who did the cha cha and monkeys who played the drums and a tiger who could growl the whole lot of Frank Sinatra's songs. Smart tiger. People in Agrabah like to sing about the desert and jewels and street rats and genies and princes and magic caves and magic lamps and, well, pretty much anything that happens around where they live. Deserts are pretty boring most of the time, but the deserts over there are full of life and music and stories to tell."

Discussion: "So dudes, as you can see music is totally different all over Earth. Earth is like its own little multiverse with all the different places. I've sorted you into 5 groups of 4, except for Group 1 which has 5 people. Each of you dudes has been assigned one of the areas on Earth. The idea is to argue why your area's music rocks the most based on what you've heard today. You don't have to agree, but just pretend you're trying to beat everyone else. Everyone with a really good argument gets a coupon for Jeff the God of Biscuits bakery in town. He makes good pie."

Groups:
Group 1
Harry - Africa
Yuffie - Asia
Boone - Middle East
Han - Europe
Lily - can choose any if she attends

Group 2
Crichton - Middle East
Pip - Africa
Angela - Europe
Izzy - Asia

Group 3
Bridge - Africa
Jake - Asia
Chiana - Europe
Jessica - Middle East

Group 4
Callisto - Africa
Chloe - Middle East
Cameron - Europe
Lindsey - Asia

Group 5
Jack - Middle East
Zero - Asia
Marty - Africa
Sawyer - Europe

Homework: "None. But be ready for your first project next week dudes."

[OOC: I post, then I sleep. Responses when I wake up. Have fun and try not to break each other too badly.]

"No way. Stealing from pirates is something ninjas-in-training do for practice. Real ninjas wouldn't even bother, because the pirates wouldn't even be worth the time and effort, since pirates are so weak."

"Pirates are so not weak. Haven't you ever heard of Nebula the pirate? She commands her ship naked, that's how tough she is. I'd like to see a mangy ninja do that!"

"They are so! And no, I've never heard of Nebula...Wait, naked?"

And with one little word, Callisto has defeated Lindsey. After all, how can he resist the idea of naked pirate wenches?

"Uh-huh, naked," Callisto nodded.

"Whoa. She could definitely take on the ninjas then."
