Student Council meeting [Lunch time]

Josh sat at his desk eating a sandwich and flipping through the Washington Post as he waited for the members of the Student Council to arrive.

He pointed to the sign-in sheet when they arrived. "Welcome to the new incarnation of the Student Council. I know most of you, but for those I don't, I'm Josh Lyman. I teach history, government, and politics now, but up until a few weeks ago, I was the deputy chief of staff for the Bartlet Administration. I'm here to tell you that actual politics bears a shockingly close resemblance to Student Council work--the only difference is the national government has more funding and we spend less time worrying about school spirit and pep rallies."

Josh swung his feet onto his desk. "Because there are twelve of you representing the various classes here, I want you all to have an equal say--but we do need one person to be more equal than others. Someone who wants to be in charge. Someone who, and this is very important, isn't me."

He rubbed his hands through his hair. "First order of business, then: who wants to be President?"

[OOC: slowplay will be our friend as to make sure all StuCo members in various timezones can play, too.]

"Also a good idea. How would you start it? Handbooks, pairing people up like the Big Sibling program, lectures, what?"

"I think maybe the Big Sibling program might be the best place to start something like this. I mean, it's kind of personalized for each person. Some are from different worlds, while some are from different times. What Walter, a kid from the 1940s, Barbossa, a guy from the 17th century, and Lee Adama, a guy from another planet with advanced tech, all have to learn are very different things. A simple handbook might not be able to cover it."

Parker nodded. "Okay, so, again, maybe a booth at tomorrow's Fair? All those who need help with 21st Century Earth, sign up here? All those who'd like to be Tour Guides to Life on the Third Rock, sign here? Think you could handle that, or do you want back-up?"

Pip nodded in return. "Exactly. Great idea. I should be able to handle it mostly by myself but I'd love some backup. After all, I'm new here myself and I want to chance to visit the other booths at some point without leaving mine unmanned."

"Unfortunately I can't help out with the booth," Angel said, "but I could help out with acclimating folks who've jumped from the past into the present. I'm not a computer expert - " he shot a glare at Parker " - but I've lived through two centuries. I could maybe help translate some of the changes for somebody who leapt from A to B."

Pip grinned. "That'd be exactly the type of thing we're looking for. Immortals or semi-immortals would be ideal, as they've made the slow change themselves."

Angel grinned. "Just don't ask me to teach them how to use email. Or change their voicemail message. On the other hand Veronica Mars was pretty helpful and friendly with that."

Pip grinned in response. "Well, considering that a lot of people in modern times can't handle it, I think it'll be alright." He brightened a bit at the mention of Vernoica Mars. "I know Veronica, she's my big sister. She defintely could probably help on something like this."

"Veronica's good people," Angel agreed. "You know, this could be a thing to put up a sign-up for. There's folks who might not have time to join a full-on club, but who could spare five minutes to help show how to make a phone call."
