Journalism 101/201 (Wednesday, January 18 - 5th period)

Rita sat on the edge of her desk, looking grumpy.

"Boys and girls, if you haven't turned in your headlines, please do so.

I'd like you to tell the class about your headline, and why you chose the subject matter you did. What sort of publication would have a headline like yours? A special interest magazine? Or a general newspaper?"

Anakin signed in.

Anakin stared at his desk for a long time.

"My headline was POOL CLOSED: POSSIBLE LINK BETWEEN SOLO, FERRET SEX?" because of something that Draco and I were, um, discussing in class last week." He blushed. "I recognized the name of one of the beings called into the principal's office after he said the pool had been closed, and remembered some strange phone calls about ferret, um, reproduction. Draco was wondering if the ferrets had been the reason the pool had been closed."

Anakin's ears were bright red. "I kind of combined them. I'm pretty sure this kind of headline would only make sense in a very specific kind of publication."

Rose signs in.

Rita tapped her finger against her chin. "Putting aside the fact that I don't recall you and Mr. Malfoy discussing anything, Mr. Skywalker, I'm curious about the 'solo' aspect. Is this to indicate that the ferret sex is, in fact, a...special alone time for the ferret? Or is it a reference to that insufferable, disgustingly irritating Mr. Solo and his compatriots who I had to endure in detention this week?"

Anakin blushed harder. He wasn't about to admit to passing notes in class, though. He wasn't that stupid.

"You know Han?" he asked instead, surprised.

"I know him in the sense that I jinxed him every which way in detention this week. Horned his tongue, grew out his eyebrows, locked his legs...all because he refused to follow a simple instruction. And I lit a fire under his chair, too. You'd think that'd have an effect. Passive-aggressive little twit," Rita scowled.

Anakin hid a smile behind his hand. "Corellians can be like that," he said carefully. "A little, um, recklessly foolhardy."

Peter signed in.

"My headline was GILMORE ENJOYS SMART DOCTOR GLASSES. I chose it because ~~your alter ego told me to~~ people love gossip. Especially when it comes to her, it seems, if you listen to the radio. Anyway, even moderately mundane headlines can be interesting if the subject is well known enough."

Peter pondered for a moment. "I suppose it would end up in a tabloid of some sort. Or maybe a medical journal dedicated to optometry, if it's a slow month."

Quinn signs in.

"My headline was NO STRAIGHT BOYS LEFT AT FANDOM HIGH, which is woefully true," Quinn says. "I don't know, maybe the big article in an issue of Waif?"

"Hey," Anakin said, making a face. "I'm straight."

"But you haven't asked me out," Quinn says, like that explains everything.

"Not allowed to date," Anakin replied, yanking at his braid. "It's a rule of the Order I'm a part of." He gave Quinn a smile. "Sorry."

Quinn looks at him. "Right," she says, because now she knows all about his beard.

"Really," Anakin said. "Can't play with the lightsaber until you agree never to have a meaningful relationship with anything else."

He blushed. "That sounded a lot less, um, something, in my head."

Quinn looks at Rita as if to say "See?"

She writes good headlines.

Clark signs in.

"Now, children," Rita said. "Settle."

Her quill had hopped up and flew back and forth across the parchment.

"And Mr. Skywalker, there is nothing wrong with not being attracted to women."

Clark clears his throat.

"My headline is Marshmellows: Squishy Goodness or Mass Destruction? based on something that Bridge was telling me about this weekend." He looks at his desk. "It'd be in...well, probably a local paper or something, because the subject is, er, local."

"I'm attracted to women," Anakin yelped. "I'm just not allowed to do anything about it."

Yeah, that didn't sound pathetic.
