Rita looked a bit less than chipper as she greeted her weeeeeetiny class.

“Today, I pose simply this: Investigative journalism. What is it? How does the concept work?

You’ll discuss this in depth today, and if you still have questions at the end of the class, you may ask me then. Your assignment this week is to write an investigative article on something on campus that you find suspicious or warranting your attention. And I don’t want to see three articles on the cafeteria food.”

She almost smiled. “Go on. Discuss.”

"I think investigative journalism is the act of finding a lead, researching thoroughly through both interviews, third party sources, and the like and then reporting on that lead with the research you've garnerned," John says. "Investigative journalism seems to be most of what we see on television news shows and special reports. The downfall of investigative journalism is that it can lead to the article being slanted one way and the other side of the argument not receiving the same research as the one originally picked and researched by the journalist."
